Problems receiving p.m. replies

So, in the last week I've had two users tell me they can't reply directly to my personal messages; apparently I come up 'user not found'.

I wonder if this is because of the use of tildes and slashes in my user name? It's the only reason that occurs immediately. I'll change it if so.

Any help gratefully received.

Hmm. How strange. To be precise, the error message I get is:

The user Duncan \\}F{/ could not be located.

There's an extra slash there...

Another member quoted me 'Duncan {F}' but that might just be off memory. hum.

Surely that is because you mistyped Duncan's 7eet name to include one too many /

No no, I didn’t type nuffink (and as if I’d get my 733t wrong!). As a test I simply replied to one of the love poems Duncan sent me, but I don’t usually reply to, and that's the message I got.

Barbelith is adding the slash.

'many love poems', smoothly.

I think the slashes may be the problem then.

Ah. I think I've had the same thing. Besides the daily abusive tirades I send to Duncan, I've sent a couple to Tom Tit Tot that I'm not sure got through (unless he's just not speaking to me). When I click to send a pm the screen opens up and it has stuck a backslash in the middle of his name.

I didn't get any error message when I sent them though.

I imagine I'm one of the two who've had trouble replying to your PMs.

I've had exactly the same message as Smoothly.

Surely these would have to be manly love poems, or, mayhap, 'man/y love poems'

MAN SLASH Y, where y = you, yes.

Boboss, you were indeed the first person to mention it to me, but one of your cohorts has done likewise today; hence my special topic.

And I never got any of those abusive tirades.

It's because of your name. Possibly. The slashes in it are probably confusing the board into thinking that it's an attempt at HTML.

When this board software was introduced, it had... problems with certain punctuation. Wonder if it's associated with that in any way?

Aye, changed now. S'funny, when I looked at my profile it had }F{/, missing the first slash.

More a help topic, this. Other users seem uable to reply directly to my p.m.s.

Personally, when I have PMS, I'm not sure I want replies.

Have there been any other problems with replying to PMs? I've been assuming for years now that if I didn't get a reply to something it was because of the content of the PM.

A few oddities similar to this one, where something in the recipient's name has made the board coding go wonky, but not much.
