So... here's what BATMAN will be looking like...

with more details here.

Note: Andy Kubert art is a pin-up created for the Wm. Messner-Loebs Benefit book

at the bottom of the article linked.

But he'll be looking a bit like that, probably. Maybe a wee redesign.

In the new Wizard, Andy Kubert says he's drawing a major new love interest that Grant M. has created for the book. Which surprised me, since I figured the only love interest would be Talia.

A hairy chested love-god with only one love interest? As if.

I have this ticling sensation that makes me think Morrison's going to have Nocturna show up.

Giant Sized Love God deserves no less.

who's Nocturna?

Mario

A vaguely vampiric albino woman who tried to gain custody of Jason Todd, pre-Crisis

There was a big Love Square thing with her, Batman, Catwoman, and this weird guy who looked like the Shadow Thief but wasn't and was either Nocturna's brother or lover or both. I remember Catwoman getting struck by lightning after confronting two of them, really weird stuff.

I think this was shortly after Bruce got turned into a vampire by another slave to his giant-size love charms. Dick Giordano era, or maybe I'm wrong.

...I used to really dislike Andy Kubert's art...but that pinup ain't half bad. Perhaps he's gotten better in the last 5 years.

it's very jim lee-y, who himself always was frank miller-y.

Nocturna is fantastic; would love to see her back. But the article implied it was a new, Morrison-created character.

Also, looking at the article again; I see that Morrison says the storyline "involves Talia, the kidnapping of Kurt Langstrom's [Man-Bat for the unintiated] wife, and a demand of the serum that turned him into Man-Bat." Make of that what you will.

Oh well.

If anyone wants to see the Kubert Batman image which is supposed to appear where that red X is: It's at Newsarama's NYCC DC panel features("Better than ever", I think).

Looks good...

Looks pretty good to me - once thing I like about this cover, and the sketch above, is that Kubert seems to be working with blacks a lot more...neither Kubert has really gotten very good at using blacks and negative space & such, but Andy K. seems to really be working at it here, with some success.

Getting prepared for this, which of GM's JLA trades are worth picking up? Preferably any that prominently feature Bats.

And DAMN. I still can't get over how cool this is going to be. I was slightly worried that I would be put off a bit by the art, but so far, I'm impressed.

Grant Morrison writing Superman AND Batman AT THE SAME TIME?

Geek overload.

ALL OF THEM YESSSSS!!!

*ahem*

Well, they are all good, but if you're looking for Batman-centric ones, I recommend the first one, "New World Order," as it's a good place to begin, and part of the mission statement of that arc was to demonstrate to any suspicious and cynical fans why a guy with no superpowers belongs in the Justice League (oh, Grant, as if we didn't know already). Also, "Rock of Ages" is just plain awesome from front to back and has The Last Batman Story in it.

Who's looking forward to the return of "HH"?

In GM's run on JLA, he has Superman say that Batman is the most dangerous man on the planet. Doesn't that get your skin pimply (other than the chocolate, of course)?

I wonder if a "one year after" version of Prometheus is going to show up in this run.

Oh, I just read in Comic Shop News one tidbit about Morrison's upcoming Batman run that wasn't reported anywhere else: an early issue will featured Batman fighting 15 Man-Bat ninjas!

So apparently the story involves some baddie trying to mass produce the Man-Bat formula (see other posts above).

I've just finished reading a bunch of old Penguin stories and I have to say I really hope Grant sees fit to bring some of the ol' Morrisonian vitality to the character. He's got a lot more potential than tody's bat-writers would have us imagine.

D'oh!!! Sorry, when I first read the early posts of this thread back when they first went up, I missed the bit about 15 ninja Man-Bats
