Well hence the striving for broadness in the terminology, the better to sneak New Stuff in under the green umbrella of Tempularosness. Speaking personally I don't really know where the forum might go in future; I suppose I vaguely hope that it will get inundated with teenage mutant hipnomancers who will rock my socks with their ect ect ect, but I have no idea how one might achieve this. Right now I'm just hanging on to what I hope is its mane and going WHEEEEEEEEE.

I don't think we can use the forum description to point where we're going, because when we find somewhere cool to go we've already gone it.

i habve to admit a shift i my perception of tyhe temple since this thread started.
one of many, but one that seemed quicker than the others.
its the emphasis on change that did it, i think.
there are other factors, some of which were authored by you, seth. others by others, and more still from my own situation and constantly evolving relationship with 'stuff'.

i dunno.
more useful/usefully articulated thoughts may arrive when i am less braindead.

i like the idea of a porper statement of intent in the description, by the way.
seems apporopriate.

Any more thoughts on this? Especially by people who wouldn't normally count themselves as Temple regulars.

Do you think anyone else from the Temple is actually reading this? I get the feeling that there's a lot of semi-regular Templers who don't really look at the rest of the board much...

What are you saying, Mordant? That we should stage a coup, right here, right now? That we should stage a secret takeover because we're the only ones that care enough to read this?

Is that what you're saying? Is it? Is it?

Huh?

Or am I putting words in your mouth?

No, I was more suggesting we say mean things about their shoes.

I'm reading it so you better not say anything about my shoes. Else I might click my heels and then where will we be?

Kansas I expect.

inundated with teenage mutant hipnomancers

Mordant, we *are* those hipnomancers, 1337 pwners ov teh madjix ubetcha. I don't know how few others are reading this but why don't we change it and see if anyone else a) notices and b) cares. If TEH MODERATORS can't change a forum description then who can? Does it have to be unanimous? We can always change it again if anybody's head catches fire or the machine elves read is an act of interdimensional aggression or whatever.

I've been reading, and I think y'all are doing a fine job. Except the bit about the coup. That didn't sit well.

But yeah, the above is expansive enough that I think it would encourage more people to visit and read and share. That'd be a good start on our trip to Where We Want to Go. So is it Magic, religion, bodywork and applied psychology: the arts of Change in accordance with Will then?

OhBTW, you go ahead and make fun of my shoes. They don't care. They're SOLE-LESS.

I guess it's a good way to avoid odor -- they can't be funky if they haven't got a sole.

I'm not here. You can't say you saw me. No one saw me read this.

Especially not the machine elves.

I just don't want it to get changed and have people feel all upset because they weren't involved. I'm going to put a link in the Questions thread, then I'll feel better.

you have to put the words dark, evil and necrotic in the description or some people just wont come back.

How 'bout "squamous"?

Please get rid of the reference to those big bad dark old ones the chaos magicians and there unsavoury spawn the new pagans it makes me cringe with embarrassing self reflection.

squamous, hmmm, you could write death metal titles with words in your vocabulary like that.

I think what you've all come up with here is perfect, which is why I haven't added anything else. But if you feel better asking in the questions thread then go for it. Or you could even make a thread in The Temple asking for opinion on the new suggestion?

I've put a thing in the Questions thread. Also in the Temple thread in the Convo and in the Barbelith pager thread. I reckon I can stop twitching now.

I say we give it a week to see if any thoughtful objections crop up and then ask Tom to change it, like piss-holes in the snow.

Actually, how does "like piss-holes in the snow" sit with the rest of you as the new forum description?

Let's keep Mysticism in the mix,

"Magic & mysticism, religion, bodywork and applied psychology: the arts of Change in accordance with Will"

Unless it's too clumsy.

Leaning towards keeping 'mysticism' too, TBH. And maybe 'faith' instead of 'religion'?

"Faith" works for me. I just want us to be sure to use the appropriate buzzwords to trap the curious christians. Huggles!

I agree mysticism needs to be in there, and faith too. How'z 'bout: "Faith, magic & mysticism, bodywork and applied psychology: the Arts of Change and Will". I just think we need to rein it in a little bit.

Actually I've changed my mind. I think what we need is a Venn diagram. In fact, all the forum descriptions should be Venn diagrams.

perhaps one large one, with conversation in the middle?

Olulabelle

Faith is better than religion and mysticism should stay in. (Take that out of context and it sounds most odd indeed.)

And I expect it's quite clear that I am in favour of Venn Diagrams.

Thirded.

I've been reading, ain't had much to say. Definately pro-mysticism. Definately pro-faith. Otherwise in agreement.

Can we take out the the notion of will, its so 1980s, the arts of change, works without the accordance to will part. and reeks less of crowley, which some people find unattractive. Neutral language which doesnt fit any particular religous movements agenda. ie isnt directly tied into there definitions and quotes.
