Sick Day

Hey everybody, I'm at home for a sick day. Let's talk it up.

alas
22:02 / 13.12.05
It's about 9 pm in London, and 4 on the east coast, US, so are you Australian? Do you work evenings?

Are you REALLY sick or is this one of those crrazzy "mental health" days?

Tim Tempest
22:04 / 13.12.05
How do you know about my mental health days?!

And actually I'm not sick. I'm injured from a basketball game. I just felt 'Injury Day' wasn't a very convincing title.

Gendudehashadenough
22:05 / 13.12.05
I'm taking the rest of the day off. Mental focus just wasn't what it was BEFORE my final exam today. Blahrrrr.

Tim Tempest
22:07 / 13.12.05
And I'm Canadian. It's 2:00 PM here.

Tim Tempest
23:05 / 13.12.05
So...where are you bastards?

I'm bored of homework, so I think I might take a break and play Metal Gear Solid 2. It's a very cool game so far.

Gendudehashadenough
23:45 / 13.12.05
That is one hell of a game, though I only got to play the first three areas after it was stolen out of my last domicile.

I really wanted to kick Revolver Ocelot's ass 50,088 more times, dammit. Why won't he just die already?!

Tim Tempest
00:15 / 14.12.05
I just discovered this game last week. I went in, and it was hidden on the shelf...it was calling to me.

And damn it's fun.

And now it is my turn to succumb to the sick role and rest at home, enfeebled, rather than turn an honest buck. Sore throat, you know. Man flu (the most pernicious kind), I suspect. Treatment involves chicken soup, and Lemsip overdose.

Here I am now, entertain me! Please do, because I can't return to cocoon self in warm snuffly fluffy duvet-ness abed, being required to sit downstairs until a parcel Ganesh has ordered is delivered. Still, Skive City! *cof* (nb, authentic sounds of life-threatening illness)

I wanted to watch Phil n Fern today after a taster for their bland but strangely alluring programme was aired during gmtv.

Look on the bright side eh? Day time TV is brill!

Mourne Kransky
11:52 / 15.12.05
Sadly, I am allergic to Phil and Fern. In fact, just the mere sight of cuddly, smiley, cheery Phil inspires me to want to kill Phil and anyone bearing the slightest resemblance. The ire might be fuelled by my flueyness but the antiPhilicity is pre-morbid.

Instead, am gorging on Sky Plus and DVDs. Twinges of guilt keep popping up to plague me and disturb my idle pleasures.

What's on the Xoc-box currently then?

Afternoon, sick kids!
I'm having my customary "few hours awake twixt nightshifts", which today was SUPPOSED to include going to see King Kong... but I woke up and thought "fuck it". However, I have my shiny new broadband and TV channels, so staying in (as if ill) iosn't such a bad idea... especially seeing as how my face frightens people at the moment.

Mourne Kransky
13:49 / 15.12.05
The Xoc-Box is currently thrilling me with David Tennant playing psycho stalker murderer in Secret Smile. Way to avoid typecasting as genial, whimsical Timelord!

Are you allowed to contribute to this thread if you are in fact at work, clocking up National Insurance contributions and tax deductions to allow the rest of you shiftless bastards to sit around in your dressing gowns and leech off the state?

Axolotl
13:59 / 15.12.05
Leave them alone Sax, you big meanie. I think sick-days are great, and I'm annoyed at the way the damn protestant work ethic has infected me to the extent that I feel guilty about taking them, even if I'm properly ill. Curse my presbyterian blood!

Since I started working nights, I don't tend to take time off sick- purely because it's not fun anymore. It's dark, it's cold and you can't even ring anyone up cos it's the middle of the night.

Mourne Kransky
15:15 / 15.12.05
Gosh, I can hear Sax's attractively northern vowels reverberating round my cranium! Oh no, it's just the voice of my conscience. That was a mighty fine thriller, btw, with David Tennant and his big, scary eyes. He is a strange stork-like man, to look at.

alas
15:20 / 15.12.05
here here for sick days. I'm grading papers, again as usual ad nauseum, and while not technically ill, I'm still in my pj's and putting on the attributes of sloth...

alas
15:26 / 15.12.05
[should be "hear, hear" of course. Except that I desperately want a certifiable excuse for real inaction here, here, here...]

I have progressed, in my day-long empirical study of day time tv watching, to a disaster movie about a dam that local businessmen say is "perfectly safe", whereas the mad-haired maverick dam expert is prophesying that it will flood the town by next Tuesday. I do love a formulaic movie, hobbit that I am. You know where you are when the bad people all die horribly and the good squirrels have nuts left for the winter.

I'm at work, sniffly & headachy, wishing I could take a sick day. However, time off means no dough, so that's out. Freelance work is kinda teh suXX0r. I may start hawking loogies across my cubicle and into the garbage can for fun later. Quite jealous of all youse folks lounging around in yer PJs. Have a mimosa for me, wouldja?

BTW Stoatie, I just noticed something 'bout yer ficsuit. No 'L'? "Noel"? Right? Right? You did that on purpose, dincha?

Veeeery clever.

It is the Dam of Justice, and only those who Swingeth the Lead shall fall beneath its deluge. Those Noble and Conscientious Workers who turn in to the office shall, of course, be spared.

Mourne Kransky
16:10 / 15.12.05
So far, the body count is Noble and Conscientious Workers: 1 (drowned, sacrificing himself to save a little boy) and Lead-Swinging Fucktards: 0! Woohoo! Actually, the body count is disappointingly low and slow in mounting, so I'm switching over to channel hop.

*bump*

I'm a sicko today, and I called in to work to say I can't come in. Because of possible doom. I have comics, orange juice, Rudy Rucker, and Barbelith. Also a big wad of crap in my throat, but that's neither here nor there.

Good morning, Barbelith...

Poor Papers.

(And I recommend Howard the Duck comics if you have 'em.)

No Howard, I'm afraid. But I've got Metal Men, and Hitchcock's Psycho is on TV. It's half-over, once the abrupt POV shift is happened.

Thanks for the cookies.

I've got your appendix. I've stuck a wafer and a 'get well' edible sign in it and i've posted it to Papers.

It's going to do him the world of good.
