Artists and schizophrenics are sexual dynamos

Fly your freak flag, find fuckbunnies.

No, really. Nature says so.

This is a weird bit of science, since it seems to line up promiscuity (classic "other" quality) with poets & madmen (classic, uh, "others"). Makes me wonder how the researchers got the idea to start studying this.

Hanging out with the cute theatrical types from the art block, no doubt.

I find the suggestion that schizophrenia traits propogate due to evolutionary pressure interesting. I suppose there is a sense to it.

But with regards to creative people having more sexual partners, I'd be curious to know how wide the cross-section was of people they interviewed though.

(Slight threadrot- did anyone hear Jeremy Hardy talking about this on the News Quiz the other day? "They did a survey? But that's the essential thing about creative people- THEY MAKE THINGS UP!!!")

If "have more sexual partners" = "find it more difficult to sustain a relationship," then hey, no surprise here.

I second Jack on this one

Has anybody else noticed that every time we hear about some scientist team discovering some weird thing about human behavior x genetic/physiological imperatives (such as "how women are different from men" type of thing) it is a British scientist team? Every damn time. I don't even need to read the news to be sure the first line is gonna be sometjing like "British scientists find out that [insert case here]". What are you people trying to find out after all?

can't see the link - have to subscribe to nature.

creativity (and depression) are associated with access to right brain - and these people are slow switchers... all nicely tied in, huh?

Damn -- they must have moved it off the public pages.

You can still find articles on the Nature Article by googling "Write poems, get lucky."

Without reading the primary source, it sounds to me like Jack Fear is making an important point. A male's increasing the number of his sexual partners does not automatically increase his reproductive potential. Five one-night stands in ten years would be far inferior to, say, a loyal monogamous marriage over that same time.
