Back in the old days, when people looked up at the stars, what the fuck did they think they were?
In Egypt, and perhaps Sumer to name a few, they seemed to have formed the fairly accurate picture that these were other worlds. Worlds of the gods and places to head for after death maybe, but nevertheless real tangible places.
In more recent history the stars, on occasion, have been seen as a rather handy clock if the watch/calender hasn't been discovered in your stomping grounds. Christianity was rather effective in sorting out those silly ideas of other worlds and establishing the holes in a piece of black paper view |
