There it goes, starting, that distant whine like a tea kettle about to hit the boiling point -- the next issue is so close, so very-very close.

Are the colours coming easily, Jamie? Besides the Bizarro bad touching, I mean.

Well, you can just imagine what it was like! A living hell. A hell of a living. It's all over tomorrow at 5pm. YahoooOOO!!!! Time to drop died!

Wow, Jamie - suffering for our pleasure, eh? Many thanks, for the blood and sweat, I appreciate it and I'm damn sure thousands of others do as well. And just think - not to belittle the suffering, but soon enough that will be over - being the guy who did the colours on All Star Superman - one of the most fantastic looking pieces of comic book art ever, probably one of the most wonderful looking pieces of art ever full stop - that's forever man.

I'd like to be Jamie's groundskeeper, I think. Getting my hands dirty and rubbing shoulders with the man, being invited in at lunch for a cup of tea. Not that he drinks the stuff, I imagine, pure aqua minerale for him. Frankly, you'd get to me a lot of... I suppose... interesting people at Grantland. And it must pay well, what with the overtime from looking after the swingball courts.

Glad to help ensure it gets transmitted and digitally produced (digi-inks and colours) in the same space across hall from FQ HQ. It keeps everything right and canny.

Hey it's really GM & FQ that really score it. My role is supporting the lines and using colour to pace and pave the storytelling. I hesitate to deploy addition tone or texture anywhere - really try not to compete with FQ's structures and composition, but amplify them with appropriate colours. Some people PM me asking for significance in the colours I've picked. Well, none really. Usually plumb for simple colour schemes along the lines of Tin-tin, Moebius and old colour 2000ad annuals (having no access to US comics as a lad *sob*). Anyhoo - I just pick colours that do everything possible to support the canny script and crafty pencils that are the core.

Lies! All lies! I hold significance in my head for every choice in color* in my readings and I will not forsaken them! Ever! Serenity now!

*that's not expressed for fear of being perceived as a raving schizophrenic. :-( ... But still, death to the auteur! (not literally, of course, just a wee bit literary)

I think we can all agree that these people should be shot.

Ok I'll later change my above post from "raving schizophrenic" to "little tosser". But in my own defense, I was too engulfed for my own good in Kenneth Anger's (oy...) use of colors and Sufi poetry symbolism in Iranian pictures (yes I'm that much of a twat) for a paper in college. So, I was seeing too much ado in everything, including my favorite monthly crack.

But I learned to let go (and before that, I learned that I should appreciate the fact that Jamie's godly present input here alone is marvelous enough, and that he shouldn't be bothered).

is there an emoticon in 'Lith for extreme flushing?

It pains me to say this, but please, don't listen to a word this charlatan has to say.

This canny "Jamie Grant" persona being perpetuated on internet forums and in children's picture books is nothing but a colossal lie. The real "Jamie" is a brutal taskmaster known only as X, who tanks about his so-called "studio" (which in reality is the dingy and moist control room of a mob-run taxi rank) in costume that's part-burlesque showgirl, part-Schutzstaffel.

The real colouring is handled by banks of malnourished ginger monkeys who are forced to work in Photoshop Ver. 0.-1 by imputting colour values pixel-by-pixel in hexidecimal code. With a fork. The only way they manage to keep inside the lines is through negative reinforcement, under the threat of ritualistic treppanning with a rusty drill, during one of Jamie's many opium-fuelled orgies.

There is profound meaning behind those colours.

God, I wish there wasn't.

As for Frank Quitely? Ha!

Try a twelve-inch severed penis, preserved in formaldehyde and busted from the Glasgow University Museum of Anatomy every month, in much the same way as Murdoch from "The A-Team". Those clean lines and that sublime use of negative space are not the product of the steady hand of a master craftsman, they're the happy accident of a 0.5 Technical Pencil jammed into "Frank's" urethra, in conjunction with a half-hourly main-vein injection of 1000cc of adrenaline cut with half the GNP of Columbia.

The real truth about Grant Morrison..... the truth as it has stood for almost two years now.... is almost too horrible to even foreshadow. Suffice to say, those that have gazed upon the ruin that now resides behind those wrap-around shades then submit to Jamie willingly, and are never heard from again.

Please, for the love of God drop this comic now and never look back. It's too late for many, but you still have a chance!

It'll take over a fortnight before we get our comp boxes from the printers. Usually in the shops a week later so say under 3 weeks?

So it takes about three weeks from when the final colours are sent in before it makes it to the rack. Interesting. I was never very clear on some of the process.

But, yes, the excitement is clicking into gear...whee!

Why Bizarro has a vague caricatural asian accent? Red Kryptonite turns Superman into George Bush/ Alfred Newman? Why Superman's super-sense showers out of his underwear? So... many... questions... too little life-time...

(Bizarro Elevator and bizarro coach are cool).

And, in light of Issue Six showing Clark's very last day as Superboy, you might want to take a look at Calamity Jon Morris's ruminations on the subject of Superboy and his transition to being Superman.

I don't remember this being posted here:

ALL STAR SUPERMAN #9
Written by Grant Morrison
Art by Frank Quitely & Jamie Grant
Cover by Quitely
Behold the Eisner Award-winning creative powerhouse in another fantastic exhibition of All Star bravura! Perils loom as Superman faces the strangest of adversaries.

I guess they couldn't afford to be more vague. Either Moz hasn't written, or people in DC just didn't get it in (or just plain didn't get it).

I'm still waiting out for Jimmy to become a melting ice-cream bee, to lose his nipples in a sun-sneezing gambling, to escape being eaten when turned into a alien holiday turkey, interrupt Lois&Clark's honeymoon by accidently becoming the carpet (or bed) in their room and after that him and Lucy being shrunk and stuck on Superman's hair (Sups almost goes nuts not being able to see that Jimmy is on his scalp, while the alarm on the Super-Watch keeps going off like crazy). In one page.

Has a cover for Number Nine been released yet? That might be part of the reason behind the vague.

On the other hand, I sort of enjoy that the post-Bizarro All-Star Superman landscape is shrouded in precognitive haze, impenetrable to the casual crystal-gazer.

The cover is being done now. The colours in the costumes of the two superfiends have taken FQ a little time to jig right. Another issue better than the previous...

Oooh, ooh! Is this your way of saying Wonder Woman and Batman will be in Number Nine? Or is Superman getting a visit from his old buddy Vartox?
