...See, even if I wasn't going to come normally, the chance to take photos of people doing stupid things involving alcohol and ripe fruit would be just too much of an opportunity to pass up.

Going to have to look into my travel plans now. Quick, Robin...to the rail station!

I'd attend the opening of a door if free bloody marys were involved.

Hell yes...

Yes. Provisionally, yes. It's my birthday on the 22nd, so a pre-birthday Brighton picnic sounds good.

I'll see your Capoeria and Ninjitsu, and raise you some Pencak Silat.

Bard: One-Man Humaton Hoedown
15:28 / 16.08.05
If someone hands me a 3 foot stick I can meet your Silat with English rapier fencing.

...yeah. The only martial art in which it is more worrisome HOW you've gotten into the situation than how you're going to get yourself out of it.

I'll be bringing the football and the jumpers for goalposts.

oh, and I can vouch for the fabulousness of Quants' Bloody Marys. They are a taste sensation.

Hmm, booze, sticks, a whole smorgasbord of fighting styles and magick. Sounds like an extremely cunning combination.
Anyone going to rock up with any more martial exotica?
At least it means there'll be plenty of out-sized sticks to stir the bloody marys with..

I might bring out my tai-chi spear for some seafront martial antics (hmm, doesn't sound very fearsome I guess). Will probably just poi it up like the big southern girls-blouse I've become

I could bring my cane, but its nice and bubble wrapped, antique, and utterly cool looking.

Peter, I'm sure you're a lovely man, but I suggest you look at what the wiki has to say about signing your name.

93,

Hello Boboss, can't find anything in it on the Wiki.
Using my real name is a deliberate decision, as part of my wider approach to internet transparency.
I have no desire to hide behind a username. I do have an extensive rant about this, but don't want this to turn into complete thread rot.
Obviously if I'm violating TOS for Barbelith then message me and let me know.

Will
Love

Not _using_ it, Peter. *Signing* it. That is, appending it to the bottom of every post you make.

There might be smoothies (smoothing things over, do you see?). Tasty mashed fruit, both drink and weapon. Maybe we could create fruit-fu?

Can someone bring a frisbee? I'm making a list of people and their identifying features, but I'm thinking asking me for a bloody mary is a good start- expect quizzing. Maybe some stickers for people's names so we can pretend we're at a conference centre in a team building exercise.

Gypsy you have the same birthday as my S/O, that's double present buying for me pooh. I mean, happy birthday.

What? With our handles, and then the forums we frequent as opposed to divisions?

And don't most coporate team building exercises require either paintballs or water guns?

Axe handles and the English Channel work just as well.

Team Building = Simulated Violence to bond a group through fake adversity, and spitefully dig on the staff you love to hate. (Remember 'Drop the Dead Donkey' paintballing?)

Axe handles and the Channel it is. Why do you think ninja are coming? It'll be like 'Nam, or Wandsworth.

Lurkers aside, provisionally we have;

-51st Century Lady (whose birthday it is on the 31st, mind)
-Bard (From Oxford no less, in a Caine tee)
-Kapokalypse (Mum permitting)
-Goodness Gracious Meme (Purple crew cut and Mozza specs)
-Peter Grey (Ninja- no identifying features except black mask and deadliness, of course)
-Rollo Kim (Pigtails, stripes and Antifreezio Italiano)
-Lord Nuneaton Savage (hip threads, secret sideburns and musk)
-Gypsy Lantern (Happy Birthday for Monday)
-Just-some-guy-weilding-a-tai-chi-spear

Not Boboss, Gumbitch, Pappuce, Fraely or McGyver, who will miss out on the bloody marys. Pity them.

The callsign is 'Give me a Bloody Mary Quantum!' or any line from Top Gun ('Goose!', 'Hiiighwaaay tooo the Dangerzone', 'You can ride my tail anytime', etc. gosh that film is *so* filled with homoerotic subtext)

...also a more practical addendum,
LOCATION- we'll be at the West end of Hove Lawns, the bit of green on the seafront next to the 'Meeting Place' cafe and the statue of an angel proffering a laurel which marks the Brighton/Hove Boundary.
TIME- About four o'clock, Saturday 20th of August.

So, from the station (Bard pay attention) walk straight out and keep going until you hit the sea, turn right, keep going past the ruined pier until you find us.

Anyone who wants my mobile number PM me.

Given the re-emergence of Classic English Summertime Weather this morning, is there a plan B in place which doesn't involve being outside?

Our Lady Won't Do That Again

Well, at the moment the Met Office is saying sunshine for Brighton tomorrow, but then they lie about so much...

What about that cafe under the arches, right down on the sea front? Between the two piers, I've only been there once so I can't remember the name...

15:19 / 19.08.05
Bastard Met office lied to me. They said 'Sunny' a few days ago. Now it's all 'Rain in the east clearing' and 'Becoming brighter from the west'. That little picture of a cloud with the sun poking out which means 'We don't know'.

Plan A is to get some Magicians to ensure the sun comes out with reality-altering madskillz, and have the fun as described above.

Plan B is similar to plan A but without the vigorous martial arts, and in a pub/my flat. Indoor picnic with a roof, just in case the universe doesn't listen to us.

I'll compile a shortlist of pubs nearby and get back to you all...

I'm leaning toward the Fortune of War (might be busy) or the Lion & Lobster (but it's a bit small), or perhaps that cafe but I can't remember it's name either.

Fortune is easy to find.

So how about, times as above, if fine, by the 'meeting place' cafe on the beach, if not fine, then FoW?

JOY NO WRY
17:38 / 19.08.05
The times sound good to me. I'm not normally a fan of sunshine, but if it rains I may not come, due to my current state of pathetic and miserable poverty making drinking alcohol such a difficult task.

Quantum
21:17 / 19.08.05
I am spectacularly poor and don't drink, that's a rubbish reason not to come- you will get free Bloody Mary at my delightfully appointed bijou residence, meet us at the FoW about four if it rains. Y'hear?

And anyway never mind all this naysaying, the combined Gnosis of the guests will impel the clouds away, the weather *WILL* be lovely. Ever tried cloudbusting?

IT *CANNOT* RAIN. MY FRIENDS ARE GETTING MARRIED AND I ONLY HAVE A SHORT-SLEEVED SHIRT (WHITE, WITH WHITE TIE - AM I MAKING A HORRIBLE MISTAKE? I LIKE TO THINK IT'LL LOOK KIND OF PURITAN, BUT, Y'KNOW *SEXY* PURITAN - AM I WRONG?)

anyway, as noted, optimo indoors etc... sorry i cdn't offer a discount, but it's not really our night - the best advice i can give (again) is get down before 11. ICFTHS finish at 12:30, for what that's worth.

Yeah, K, none of us have teh big bucks for the long pub session. It will inevitably end up with us drinking the delish BMs at somebody's house.

Oh, and Auto. YES, we know. It sounds great. Those of us with thee Will and thee cash will bee there.

Where exactly is "Hove Lawns", in case the weather gods cooperate?

Goodness Gracious Meme

Hove Lawns is the blank bit, by the seafront on this map, there's a big statue on the right-hand/eastern side of Hove Lawns (if walking from town along the seafront, the end you'll come to first)
