369, go ahead and give me all of them, I keep late American hours when the board's pretty dead, and despite being a goofball, my modding in the switchboard is top notch.

Jack, we don't make people moderators of every forum. Select maybe four fora you read and contribute to most often, nd start there, would be my suggestion.

Sorry Hause. Let's see.

369

and I'd like comics, conversation, keeping switchboard(I don't post a lot there, but being a mod gets me reading stuff I might normally miss, and is good for me), and headshop in hopes that it will get me more into a fora I've normally neglected.

One forum. Many fora.

Fora: I read 1, 5, 10 and 11 everyday, even though I don't always post to them. I also visit 2, 4 and 6 regularly, and I would be more than willing to get more involved with them if they need moderators more than the 4 I listed first. Any of these would be excellent choices for me to moderate, if you'll have it.

Can I add Music and the Lab to my repertoire, as they both need more modding and I'm intending to spend more time in both.

1, 10, 11, and 15 are where I feel most comfortable.

I am GMT -7 and am here 8-5 mon-fri with very little to do, so would be glad to help out.

User 202, Forum Four.

Reinstate me? I promise to actually moderate things this time. As I've said elsewhere, broadband net access at home means I have time now. And I've been taking part in so many policy discussions that I feel like a mod anyhow.

(Is it really obvious that I'm still smarting just a little from three years ago when I got de-modded without warning?)

Moderate 12 (Flyboy asks for more Music mods, I'm happy to do it, read the forum often and post reasonably often.)
Drop 7 (I never really even read Lab, and it seems unfair to people who do + I don't know how I got it in the first place.)

i am also happy to be REMOVED from GnG(fourm 15) unless folks feel keeping my janitorial skills is more useful than losing a non-posting moderator. i havent posted there enough to justify calling myself much more than a cleaner, but i will gladly continue to amend posts, etc if folks feel it is necessary.

I'd be more than happy to offer moderation services if they're needed. Not sure if adding me to the list would be a case of too many cooks or not though.
If I can help, then :

User 1258
Happy to moderate any/all of forums 1,11,12 & 15

Hardly post to 12 at all but read it everyday.

The only forum that currently needs a few more moderators is Music.

There seems to be a distinct lack of moderators in the Creation. I know it's not a busy forum but I'd like to help. I'm up for moderating it if that's ok...I don't know how to apply, though?

Hey guys, I'm in the middle of another frantic spot of work. Is there any chance a couple of existing moderators could get together and collate the changes that need to be made in the mods and send me an e-mail with the details, and I'll put it into practice as soon as I get a moment? Sorry to be so slack, but I have to prioritise at the moment.

Okay - we need to stop this. The original call was for a specific time period, not to be an ongoing set of requests to moderate things. I just don't have the mental bandwidth to get the lists of mod names from people, check around that they're all responsible members of the community and then get this into action. So can we spend the time working out how to sort out the moderator stuff, rather than people putting themselves up for moderatordom?

Sorry to be snarky, but I have a to-do list as long as my arm at the moment, and if I'm going to get things done, I have to accept that some of the ways things are or are not happening at the moment need to be fixed as processes.

That sounded much crosser than I meant it to. Please don't take it as me being cross with you guys, because I'm not - it's just unsustainable. Suggestions about how we change this appropriately to be sustainable?

Just some thoughts:
1)A moderator should be able to sustain a reasonable on-line presence.
2)Each forum should have enough moderators to keep up with moderatorial requests within, at least, a 12 hour period.
3)A moderator should be a trusted member of Barbelith having spent a reasonable amount of time spent here.
3)AF&D, Creation and Music clearly need more moderators.

Perhaps, there should be a certain decided upon point every year or every six months where moderators can either step down or step up to the plate?
If there's a clear need for more/new moderators the moderators of the forums concerned can collate and organise any potential moderators and eliminate those who don't obviously fit the bill and then email you as in the application for membership process.
It'd take pressure of you, Tom, a little, at least.

Cross posted to How we select moderators:

How about we install two moderators in music, lock this thread and only take moderators again in six months time... and only then if we need any.

I hesitate to recommend that one or two people should select moderators. No one is impartial.

Hey, it's probably time for me to step down:

user number 5, remove from fora 4, 9, 14 (Head Shop, Books, Gathering)

Maybe being demobbed will get me to read/post here more. In the meantime, I'm not really around enough to do much work anyway. Sorry.

Deva, I suggest that you contact Tom via PM as he doesn't seem to be on the board very much at the moment.

I did propose that we lock this so that no one else used the thread in this way but I think someone disagreed it. Can I have a reason please? It seems stupid to leave this thread unlocked when no one can use it for its intended purpose and people could propose themselves as moderators and get confused when there was no response. Should moderators spend their time explaining that this thread is out of service when we could actually utilise a board function to do so?

Isn't this actually what locking is for?

I agree. Let's try that lock again. (If anyone disagrees, could they post here to let us know?)
