Considering deletion of a moronism would take 3 mods to agree on it, someone else has usually joined in to shout it down or whatever before any deleting goes on.

True, true.

The scenario you suggest was what happened in Headshop the first time I noticed the particular eccentricity of the board that you're talking about.

That shit is hilarious. I love people who come here to play!

Am I Crying Wolf? One post so far, joined Feb 2003, recently changed name to 'tis Knodge- trollsuit? As someone who never partook of the debacle, I don't know the protocol knodgewise- dare we speak his name? Ignore it? Run around shouting? Mercilessly mock the suit?

E. Randy Dupre

Policy is, anything posted from that suit gets deleted until Tom's made aware of the problem and kills it. Delete and move on.

Now that the board is open to new members, albeit in a rather roundabout fashion, it'd seem a good time to have a purge on suits that have been registered for a while and never been active.

Has someone given Tom the user number? (ie. 1954)

Yeah, I did earlier on.

There were a bunch in the Late Shift as well... (spotted by Bed Head)... so I've put them up for deletion as well. I think I may die of RSI.

I think I may die of RSI.
Looking at the Thread summary made me laugh at the Barbecycle, 'Temple forum has a new thread to be shifted to convo.' Ho hum, ch-ch-changes.

Anybody else get a PM? I'm assuming he's spamming mods-

"How about another chance? eh?"

West Baltimore Hausing Project
11:59 / 24.09.05
Funnily enough, no. Could you forward it to me?

Unless we do decide to give him another chance, which would have the advantage of being kind, charitable and probably not causing any long-term disrupttion to the board, we may want to think about any technical response to Andrew's reappearance.

This is also an opportunity to raise once again the issue of Barbelith terms and conditions. These need to exist in an official form, and if we try to do them by committee they never will.

Quantum of Solace
13:16 / 24.09.05
"How about another chance?" is the PM title,
"eh?" is the full text. Persuasive rhetorician he ain't.

%Can't imagine why he didn't PM you, Haus%- I imagine you fall in the Hawk camp on Knodge. (is there a dove camp?)

Is there a terms and conditions thread to discuss it in? I'd've thunk unilaterally putting it on the wiki and letting people amend it would be a good committee method, but if there are trolls with access to the wiki that won't work I s'pose.

Quantum of Solace
13:35 / 24.09.05
also is there a potted history of Knodge thread for newer mods or those absent during the furore? I for one just know him as a synonym for 'Troll' but none of the specifics.

Yes, here.

Our Lady Drinks Your Milkshake

I presume he hasn't PMed me for the same reason. Frankly, he hacked my suit. I don't want him on here.

Smoothly
14:19 / 24.09.05
Yeah, I got that PM too.

By the way, I forgot that the thread I linked to above was itself quite controversial. If other Policy mods think it was a bad idea to draw attention to it, do delete that post.

E. Randy Dupre
14:29 / 24.09.05
It's alright, Smoothly - that thread's already locked. It's there to be linked to whenever the cunt cracks into another person's suit and pleads his innocence.

I wouldn't worry about it, Flowers. He's not welcome here, full stop. Another chance to piss all over the floor, then stalk and threaten people once he's removed for the hundredth time? No.

Bed Head
14:58 / 24.09.05
I seem to think there used to be a ‘So, who is this knowledge guy then?’ page in the wiki that stated the policy and pointed to the thread that Smoothly just linked to, and it was removed from the FAQ because he was going to stop bothering barbelith, or something. Or have I just imagined all that? Only, if we’re still going to need to enforce a policy, then I suppose that means it will need writing down somewhere so that all users can be aware of it. Argh.

Now that the board is open to new members, albeit in a rather roundabout fashion, it'd seem a good time to have a purge on suits that have been registered for a while and never been active.

There might some technical-type reasons why a straightforward purge can’t be done here, but could there be any way of just *blocking* them instead of wiping them from the database? Admin powers can lock suits, can't they?

Excuse me but you're all being a little too cryptic. What name was he using?

Bed, no, only Tom Coates can lock suits; as far as I know there aren't admins any more either, just moderators.

Nina- he was, rather cleverly, using the name "'tis Knodge".

Bed Head
18:18 / 24.09.05
Jack, I made that request this morning, although it’s not the most obvious of requests - I was kinda in ‘lets not make a noisy fuss’ mode when I made it. It was before I'd had any coffee. But, if nothing else, I think he might have highlighted a possible need for a few more Creation mods. Volunteer here.

Vincennes, you’re right that we don’t currently have any admins, but I was wondering if it’s still possible to have them on Rainbow Barbelith, and if that would be at all useful. Purely as a temporary thing, just to tidy up the user list.

Vincennes: Bringing Sassy Back
18:45 / 24.09.05
Ah right -well, suit locking, whilst an option on the admins' menu, was never actually activated as something they could do. Whether or not that was because Tom decided he didn't want that to happen in the end, or because the functionality wasn't in place, I don't know. I don't think it should be that difficult to implement, though, if Tom wants to bring the option back. Sorry if you know all that already...

I've had moderation requests in the Creation and the Gathering which have taken best part of six to ten hours to be okayed by forum moderators, any known faces who fancy giving moderation a try should perhaps put themselves up for them?

Quantum of Solace

A half dozen Creation volunteers are waiting to be appointed. Not many for the Gathering though I note.

Have we done enough to invite new, first-time moderators d'you think? The Gathering's a good place to get blooded.

Ah, yes... This is the part where Morpheus pops in to use a genuine actual human tragedy to prop up his own ego: PHEAR ME!!1! I YAM TEH PROPFET!!!one!!

Move to delete.

I'm surprised it's taken him this long. Must've been a long round of gin rummy or something.

Kill it.

I had a request for deletion that came through from Petey Shaftoe. As, in the meanwhile, three people have responded to the post I have instead put in a moderation request to remove Morpheus's blistering crassness and replace it with a note saying it's been deleted so people looking at the thread in future realise there's something that's gone.

Do we want to have a discussion about asking Tom to kick him out or do people feel that causes more trouble than it solves?

I disagreed and put morpheus's latest post and all those following it up for deletion in an attempt to keep everything on topic, sane and to avoid creating a conspicious hole in the middle of a topic...
