I tremble to disagree with Haus on a point of verbal precision, but in the US, "bath" is not a verb. (Check the American Heritage Dictionary's two definitions; both are nouns, one is the cluster of words related to tubs, spas, and bodily hygiene, the other a Hebrew unit of currency. Bathe is our word for both activities described by my learned friend.

It annoys me when people say "sorry", immediately after they did something, that made them say they´re sorry.

I had a boy in my class in primary school, who hit other children and then immediately did a puppy face and said "sorry". Grrr.

No need to hang your head, shrub, I´m not looking at you. You just reminded me of that annoying boy oh so many years ago.

(Additionally, "cluster of usages" would be more accurate in my description of the first "bath" entry.)

To be precise, "bath" is a verb, but not one used in the US. The Oxford English Dictionary provides two verbal usages of "bath", one transitive and one intransitive. Point taken, however.

This handy paragraph on bath/bathe in Chambers:

bathe, bath
In British English, bathe refers to swimming, or to therapeutic washing, e.g. of wounds or sore feet; bath is the verb for washing yourself or someone in a bath. In the past tense, the same form bathed is used (with different pronunciations when spoken), which contributes to the uncertainty. In American English, bathe has both meanings.

Which raises again the question of what exactly Avon was doing in Rescue when he tells us that his gun was stolen while I was bathing!

I just spelt 'stolen' 'stollin'. I wonder why.

Perhaps "gun" and "stolen" are metaphors?

Today I are mostly disturbed by fascistic tendencies masquerading as lefty self-righteousness which occasionally crops up somewhere in these pages.
People mistaking words-for-things, feeling bad about that word and then not twigging that bad feelings exist in their own body and not in the thing that is deemed 'wrong'. Everyone is a masochist at least some of the time.

I think I may have talked myself into a double-bind there - and that really annoys me!!!!!! Spank my bad self!!

On the upside I am enjoying many and varied threads on interesting and thought-provoking subjects as well as Carrot and Ginger soup (homemade) yum!

I am annoyed that Pyewacket has homemade carrot and ginger soup and I haven't. Life is so unfair.

What a coincidence. I just came back here to remark upon how weak thinking, prejudice and indifference to misogyny masquerading as free-thinking all annoy the everloving crap out of me! Especially from supposed magicians! Must be some kind of synchronicity or something.

Mordant, I love your posts. No one uses hyperbolic aliteration as you do.

What's pissing me off about Barbelith now is the time zone. When I get back from work ready to spill my guts outs, everybody there in Albion is sleeping, and when I wake up next morning, I feel like I missed three episodes of my favorite soup opera.

Well, c'est la vie, n'est pas?

Yes, I sympathize. I (and the British Barbs too, I assume) have the same problem with US boards. Here it´s midnight, there 04.00 pm. And at 10.00 am here, there it´s night.

I am still snarky about the misuse of the term fascist. Even more so this time. Because of the fact it's being used by someone who apparently thinks words are entirely meaningless. But isn't prepared to follow that through to its logical conclusion and give up language entirely.

Straight out of the can, without even a dash of pepper or hot sauce to dress it up a bit. Boring.

And the funniest part is he mixing fascism (extreme right-wing totalitarianism) with anything "lefty"

It cracks me up to hear that

It saddens me to realise I once was like that too.

Ah, why do I bother? Everybody is sleeping now...

Yes, we should shave them...

What's pissing me off about Barbelith today is the either/or attitude towards capital letters. You each have three different keys on your keyboard that allow you to put a capital letter at the beginning of a sentance, please for God's sake use them.

Or at least use them consistently, or not at all. I think the only person who correctly employs a no-capital letters style is toksik. Ze has a very specific style that's easy to read and to follow along with.

Also, and this isn't directed at anybody personally, but could you either bold or italicize or underline or fully CAPITALIZE the titles of books/movies/comics/etc?

Why? It's not necessary and after years on Barbelith you get tired of doing the html all the time. I used to do it but gave up a while back. It's a message board not a literary journal.

I used to do it all the time, but it does get tedious especially with a long list. I don't think capitalising would look very elegant.

You know the bit where the contributions in Books were being held up as proof that somewhere there was some kernel of worth within? Are we still doing that after "if a MAN was sexually aggressive like WOMEN are allowed to be, feminists would be all UP in his BUSINESS!"? Again?

You know what that thread on race, language and cultural appropriation really needed? It needed to be diverted into a discussion of whether a porn site is "over" or still cool, and whether livejournals are lame!
