I read a sentence of 'Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus' once.

GAWD, Nina! Now you're forcing all of to read it!

That is a sentence.

Papess

I am annoyed that I am incapable of forming a a sentence without finishing my tea.

Aha! A new Barbannoy. This thread is mostly rubbish.

Yeah, yeah, nice idea, but in practice, well, lets face it, most of it really doesn't resemble a conversation in any way shape or form.

man, i didnt want to say anything for fear of being labelled 'borecore' or 'mr unfunny' or some other equally wacky thang, but yeah.
its really crap.
i mean, some of the quotes dont even follow from the one before, let alone the whole thread.

let it die, i say.
let it die and maybe we can make a better one.
or just talk about films, maybe.

I posted to that thread before I realised it was meant to be a 'conversation'. I kept looking at the other posts and wondering why they were so... ungood. Now I feel dirty and soiled and abused.

Well, that's what they charge for beetroot nowadays!

What is that? Is that a movie quote? It better not be.

As the originator of the most hated game thread of all time, I’ve refrained from lamenting any others. But since the movie quote convo thread is coming in for a kicking, I feel beholden to point out that it is a work of creative genius compared with this thread, which made me cry like a child sucking on a dandelion, pretty much everyday for the 6 months it spent bubbling at the top of the Conversation.
(If anyone now bumps that thread, just to annoy me, I will devote the rest of my life to destroying you.)

At least that thread does what it says on the tin.

Smoothly, what is this mysterious thread of which you speak?

Moderation request waiting to go through (with a probably ill-advised easy-to-click link), but I'm talking about [sotto voce] 'Musical Tag'.

But what was the hated one you started?

Only when they adapt this thread next year. I think Miramax own the rights, they're courting Joe Johnston to direct...

Nah, Fly. You were beaten, fair and square.

Did Tom get the £50?

Boboss, why don't you just Barbignore such threads? (no offence meant) Personally, I quite like the thread you linked to as I imagine the actual film clips being spliced together and forming a new narrative. Reminds me of Burroughs and Gyson's "cut-ups", etc.

Do you really believe that's how it is, or are you describing your aspirations for the thread?

For my money, on the whole, what we've actually got is another boring list thread, with a few (very few) instances of something more.

Feel free to ignore my complaints.

Sorry, I think that came across as a bit snarky and it wasn't meant to.

At first I too was slightly annoyed when things did not progress quote to quote in a seamlessly but then I begun to think about it as more of a drunken lateshift event with insular conversations, dead ends and one liners that may or may not necessarily relate into a grand narrative or exactly conversational structure. When I thought about it in this way it didn't bother me.

Sorry for threadrot.

S'allright, I didn't take it that way.

Do you really believe that's how it is, or are you describing your aspirations for the thread?

Not sure. I just like the idea of making new narratives out of old. I remember being shown a book once where the "author" had taken an old Victorian novel (I think) and scribbled, doodled, blanked out whole paragraphs (etc), and left certain words which formed a new story. It was a good idea, I thought.

Plus, it's all just harmless fun, no?

There are many threads on Barbelith which I don't "get" or which don't interest me, and I just ignore them. I guess there has to be a certain level of quality control on Barbelith to keep standards high, but we can all take ourselves a little seriously at times (not that I'm accusing anyone in particular of this in respect of this example).

For example, I started this thread last night and I bet the "silliness" of it drives many of you "up the wall", but there's more behind its conception that a infantile brain (I promise).

Am I making sense?

Ok Barbannoyed at myself for writing "in a seamlessly" rather than "seamlessly" above. Grrr stupid me.

I've been mildly irked for days now by the incorrectly spelled name of Barbelith's newest member. Is that wrong?

oh god yes - it's a bit too similar to "imaginary mice" as well

I have to say that I hate all threads composed of movie quotes or song lyrics. I really really hate them. There, that's that said.

I just came here to post that as well. I really, really want to be our newest member's best friend. We could go for long walks along the Embankment, make snow angels in Stratford and bellow poetry at each other across Gaping Ghyll. But they're really going to have to spell "friend" correctly if this is going to work.
