Oh, dear. I may be diabetic myself, now. Will have to go and read the Von Mises Apprentice thread to produce insulin.

Errr...yeah. There's that.

I first saw degus when I was shopping for a rat - they looked so wise and self-contained, staring into the middle distance. Sadly, face of a sphinx, brain of an addled hamster.

They look wise and self-contained because their brains have three modes: eat, procreate, bite things. When they're not eating, procreating, or biting things they just kind of shut down.

My parents were dooped into buying one by being told that they're "nearly as smart as a rat". Ok, folks, lets be honest: rats are pretty smart...by rodent standards. So saying that something is "nearly" as smart as a rat probably just means that it has a general idea that "cats=bad".

Addled hamster is a good description. "Incontinent hamster on meth" is another good one.

...did I mention that a degu's automatic defense mechanism if picked up is to wee on you and THEN bite you? Yeah. Its not pleasent finding that out. And it really was in that order. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

The dog on the right thinks the dolphin is cool.

The dog on the left thinks the dolphin is dinner.

Just look at that hungry grin on his face. He's not thinking "friend", he's thinking "tuna fish"!

OMG PONIES!!! YOU CLICKED 3 KITTENS!!!!!!

This is fun! But it made me wonder, why this is not the usual method. The "normal" method, those ugly grey numbers and letter are so "inhuman", so impersonal and clinical. It says a lot about our culture, that instead of that "identify yourself by clicking on kittens", the "instead click on ugly hard to read numbers and letters" method has established itself.

You can tell the lion is humoring her, probably after being bribed. Its going "OK, you've got your hug...now where's my gazelle?"

Yesterday, I read about a petting zoo with real lions. They were raised by humans ands are completely harmless and like to cuddle. But I donīt know if I would have the courage to get this close to pet them.

Yes, the famous sleepy kitten! We should seriously think about doing a separate thread for cats.

Hamsters
can be cute, too, of course.

I love that hamster now.

The kitten...eh. But the hamster hits Flash-like speeds and then flies out of the wheel. Damn. THAT is good comedy.

Yeah, the idea seem good. The problem is, when a 300 pounds feline wants to cuddle you, it may accidentaly break a couple of your ribs. No harm intended by them, it's just... have you ever seen cats playing with each other? There's a lot of pawing* and a bit of clawing going on.

*I'm not sure this word, "pawing", exists, but the funny bit about the English language is that you can verb almost any word. Or word any verb...

that duckling is double cute, but it probably didnīt live very long.

Another animal with two heads:

albino kangaroo!

And hereīs a video. (click on "video abspielen" underneath the albino kangaroo photo)

Itīs five months old and doesnīt have a name yet. It lives in the Buenos Aires zoo and the chance of an albino kangaroo being born is 1:10.000!

I saw a rabbit do one of those almost vertical jumps the other day. It jumped and did a 180 in the air and bounded off in the opposite direction.

Then it came back. Then it did it again.

Stupid rabbit.
