That is a shame. I remember a discussion in a pub a little while ago about Milligan dieing and wether or not he'd be sainted. I hope he is.

The inventor of alternative comedy?

We shall never see his like again.
Because they're burying it with him.

Oh yeah, the Goon Show was a massive influence on the Python boys....

well - either things are going to get weird in heaven...

or the worms are gonna be on a diet of pure surrealism - and what does that mean to the ecosystem?

Listening, by chance, to 'Song for Pesoa' from the Drugstore album 'White Magic for Lovers'. Seems strangely appropriate.

Christ, this is sad.

I was in Virgin (blueergh) flicking through racks of fake-ass shit metal CDs looking in vain for something good when the news came on the radio .. I nearly cried .. again very sad..

I wish I had some of my old Goon Show tapes with me so I could turn 'em up loud.

(Douglas Adams, Spike Milligan, Joey Ramone -god, my childhood influences have taken a battering in the last year..)

Not Here Still
19:02 / 27.02.02
Young are our dead
Like babies they lie
The wombs they blest once
Not healed dry
And yet - too soon
Into each space
A cold earth falls
On colder face.
Quite still they lie
These fresh-cut reeds
Clutched in earth
Like winter seeds
But they will not bloom
When called by spring
To burst with leaf
And blossoming
They sleep on
In silent dust
As crosses rot
And helmets rust.

(The Soldiers at Lauro)

One of our greatest writers on war has gone. One of our best comedians.
One of our funniest poets, and also one of our most serious.
A wonderful trumpet player.
A fighter for the causes, such as vegetarianism and mental health, which he believed in.

I'll miss you, Spike...

Maybe now they'll repeat "Q".

Our Lady of The Two Towers

You've got to admire a man who deliberately makes things like airplane crashes up for his autobiography just to make it more interesting.

I just hope the BBC don't repeat any of the shows from his 80s birthday night, because they were mostly piss-poor and very embaressing (Kathy Lette drooling all over him, very distasteful).

"He's fallen in the water!"

Somewhere Peter Sellers and Hary Secombe are standing, looking at their watches and saying "You took your time didn't you?"
