I don't know if he's too modest to post about it or what, but in the DC solicitations for April, something that you may have missed is MNEMOVORE, a 6-issue Vertigo mini written by my pal and Barbelith regular Ray Fawkes, and illustrated by Mike (the Coffin, Deep Sleeper, Batgirl) Huddleston.

Ray's been working like crazy for years trying to break into the big leagues and he's finally done it. The story is great, what I've seen of the artwork so far is beautiful, and Ray really deserves some success on this one, so everyone please try and pick up this series when it comes out in April. Help a Barbebrotha out!

I didn't care two bits about this comic and was only going to get it because I wanted to support a fellow 'lither and almost didn't click on Spookshow.

My god...please tell me this is as brilliant as sounds in my head before I spend 13$ and get violently angry and disappointed.

Heh...thanks, Cameron. I was actually feeling a bit modest to post this here - I hadn't said anything on Barbelith for so long that I figured people might think I was a new guy, just showing up to shill my work.

It's co-written, actually, with Hans Rodionoff, of LOVECRAFT fame - and I'm very, very happy with how it's turning out. Mike Huddleston's art is absolutely terriffic.

I hope I do the 'lith proud!

That cover is beautiful, mysterious and fascinating. I loved THE COFFIN and really like Hud's art.

I never read Spookshow, heard of it in passing but don't know anything about it. But I think I'll definitely try issue 1 of this and see how I like it. Congrats to a fellow 'Lither!

Something that occurred to me while looking at the preview pages, and I wonder why I haven't asked Cameron about this by now - how do you feel having your story punctuated by ads? I haven't picked up a vertigo comic for a while, so I don't know if they carry the same ads for videogames and comic book franklin mint shite (from what I remember, vertigo's all ads for magic the gathering cards and goth bands), but... yeah. Do you mind having that kind of "interruption" in there? As opposed to Spookshow, which was a no-ads kinda thing, I presume.

I haven't really thought about it yet, to tell the truth. I don't imagine I'd have too much of a problem with it. The narrative style in Mnemovore allows for jumps, jags, and cuts between (and, in some cases, during) scenes, and so I don't think it will really interfere too much.

Nobody likes ads. I wish they weren't there but they are a necessary evil. There were a couple of times in Seaguy when I felt the ad placement wrecked the flow of the story or the page layout, but fortunately it's been corrected for the trade paperback, which is the far more permanent edition.

I think that really underlines one of the big advantages of trades, Cameron. In addition to being often cheaper than buying the collected singles seperatly, the narrative flows without the interruption of ads and the like.

which brings up an interesting question (to me, at least) - and i apologise for threadrot - how reliant are the publishers on the advertising revenue? I can't remember off the top of my head, but Image don't use ads, do they? Or wildstorm?

Ray, this is fantastic! I am seriously digging this book. Will definitly continue picking up the singles.

My only complaint is Vertigo's formatting...the bastards stuck a six page look at the Matrix in the middle of the book. Broke up the flow of things more than a touch. I had to suffer through the same thing with the first issue of Zatanna. Now I remember why I generally only buy trades.

I was going to mention this also about the annoying Matrix layout of ads in comics lately. I can't wait for these to just go away. Anyway, as far as this comic is concerned, I just picked it up today - and I like it. Only I think it was a little short, perhaps. It's a simple little story, it seems, not complex like the Morrison stuff I'm used to reading lately... though I'm curious what that strange octopus is up to and just how it will advance the story in issues to come. Great artwork. Very clear. I also like the way the dialogue kind of skips along...

Picked this up recently and only just got round to reading it... (still haven't got round to readin the Paul Pope Solo book which seems to have gone walkabout)...

Intriguing stuff, but at the moment all we have is oblique hints at Kaley's life and the vicereal horror the cthulonic entity... I'm really wanting to know more about Kaley's life and relationships - why her parents don't seem to like her boyfriend and the identity of the mystery caller her boyfriend deals with, her dad's emotional disengagement... I want more to grab me...

Is there any chance of the origianl piper snow series being published on the internet - it might well be interesting to compare it with the new series - or does it give too much away in terms of plot?
