Got another one, even more asinine this time. Another kill for Phex: Headshop sniper.

I tried to fix this myself, about three times. I finally decided to get rid of the link altogether. However, it is still there, and an eyesore. I do apologize and just want mods to know that I did try to make adjustments but for some reason it just didn't seem to take. Wondering if there are urls that cannot be linked to.

It's the board software. Unfortunately it parses certain character combinations as smiley faces, thus bollixing the link.

Thanks Mordant. I will remember that in the future.

Fucking smilies. They're irritating even when nobody's using them!

I know. It's kind of telling that they're still here even though Tom hates them too.

Our Lady had put in a request to have this thread locked - I've disagreed it primarily because the reason was to do with Dead Megatron's conduct rather than the thread itself. I have to concur that of late DM seems to only ever pop up to made some kind of snide remark about long-suffering moderators' attempts to do right by the board, but I think that should be treated as an issue in itself.

Some of Yichiyon's pictures in Yichiyon's Asian music thread are somewhat large.

can someone delete my last post from comics, as my 25 year old cousin, who has two kids, thought that it would be funny to post that. Sorry.

This thread looks like it might be in need of a move.

I can't help wonder maybe each forum should have one or two 'fluff' threads, into which mods could copy opening posts (or send the poster in that direction) whilst deleting the offending content-free thread?

It would keep the convo from being the catch-all dumping ground, but maybe also help retain a bit more of a lighter/funner (sorry, 'more fun') atmosphere in some of the forums. I can't help but feel that this is a problem that will never get stamped out, and that we'll always have people wanting to put their one word/sentence/link posts in what they see as the appropriate fora. It might also make some forums a little more active as people check the threads and maybe stimulate a bit more resulting discussion.

Thoughts?

Obviously to an extent this could be covered by the "what are you currently listening to" thread*, though that generally demands a little more input than vision's case.

* not obvious enough to me to mention it in my earlier post though.

Can we lock and sink 40% Farewell thread in Convo? Ze won't mind, since ze's left.

I think it would be beneficial to find out who they were first, and possibly there will be some benefit for him/her in well-wishing, some of which has already been received.

I've requested resizing the widest image first to restore the frame width on that page - we can always reduce the others if they still seem too big.

Let me guess: that translates as "Even though Seth is clearly being absurdist, I think some things are not to joked about and hiring someone to assassinate Haus is one of them, so I suggest Something Be Done"?

Bots'wana Beast
18:53 / 28.11.07
Possibly.

Still then we couldn't have an incendiarily entitled link, could we? I suppose we shouldn't have board members joke about killing one another, especially not in threads dedicated thusly.

I suppose.

But if Haus is personally untroubled by it, as I should imagine he will be - though, that said, he has been notably quiet today, eh? It will be well bad if El Directo has had his nasty Hidden Man wish fulfilled - then it can stay, really.

I like it even better than 'stump fucking', myself.

I haven't moved to lock or delete the thread Flyboy and won't unless it turns out that Haus isn't in on the joke and is offended. I am querying what brought this on in case we get any copycat threads of a less than 'absurdist' nature.

Yeah, it's all about the context innit. If Seth had started a thread like that about me, I'd find it amusing. I thought the joke was jokeful but then I know the topic starter to be a thoroughly decent sort and to have no readily-discernable ill-will toward the supposed hittee. I also know that there have been many, mhhhaaaanay posts over the years attacking Haus, calling for de-modding/bannination etc., so a hit thread is kind of funny for that reason. However, if some barely tolerable sack of irritant with a verifiable beef decided it would be amusing to start a copy-cat thread, the dynamic would be different.

Maybe private, personal jokes, especially of violent nature, are best left out of a public forum. There are plenty of places on the internet, and apparently in meat space (I do hate that term) that these in-jokes can be conducted. It doesn't seem right that rules are changeable from poster to poster in a public forum such as Barbelith. The rules about these things need to be clearer than: Ze can do that because we like hir. But, because you are barely tolerable (in our opinion) if you do that you are a douche.

There has to be a consideration for the fact that Barbelith can be read by non-members. There are safety and harassment issues to be considered, whether or not Haus feels unsafe or harassed.

Jesus.

Or, to be it another way: don't be so bloody melodramatic.

Barbelith: providing flavourless, soft grey mush for the brain!

Papess
19:09 / 29.11.07
So, if it doesn't involve violent rumours or jokes, it is mush? I think people here can do better than that.

E. Randy Dupre
19:13 / 29.11.07
I think you're blowing this out of all proportion and that your dead-eyed seriousness is, if anything, more bizarrely amusing than the thread in question.

Won't somebody think of the children?

Stoatie. Stoatie? STOATIE.
19:13 / 29.11.07
Ze can do that because we like hir.

But I don't think it's quite like that, is it? It's not so much that Barbelith like Seth as that Haus likes Seth, or at least gives that impression. The context is always important. It's like the difference in reaction if a mate of mine calls me a wanker (which happens with alarming regularity) or if a stranger on the bus, or someone with whom I don't get on calls me one.

OK, the other people reading it point is a separate one, but if the other people reading it actually take it at face value, then I'm surprised none of them have alerted the authorities yet.

I dunno, that's just my take on the situation.

Also:

There are safety and harassment issues to be considered, whether or not Haus feels unsafe or harassed.

No there aren't.

Papess
19:30 / 29.11.07
Well, I don't care to argue this further. If it is behaviour that is appropriate between Seth and Haus, it doesn't make it appropriate for the board.
