Should we lock E Coli's apology thread in convo?

Well, hopefully he has realised that the way forward is to shut the Hell up. I'm not seeing a pressing need to lock - it's not doing much harm, and the tone isn't exactly trollwar.

Cool. I only asked because you'd posted in it saying you thought it was locked already.

I feel a little weird seeing potentially valid credit card information in a public place. Maybe it's some sort of clever hoax thing that I'm not smart enough to get, but hurm.

It's a joke. One poster is pretending to telepathically recive the other's credit card details. Unless the poster really does have l33t Jedi mindpowers, I don't think it'll be a problem.

I know I know I know it's pathetic, but could some kind person resize our mutton-distressed-like-lamb photo, please?

Good god, that all became horribly obvious when I re-read it. I'm a dope.

For some reason the name of our new member wearekeepingoureyesonthegirls is page-breaky. Now, I don't think anyone can mod someone else's name but there must be a way to wrap it so it doesn't break. Any ideas?

Nope. There is nothing that can be done. The pagebreakyness will persist until such time as WAKOEOTG changes hir name. Sorry.

I seem to have mucked up an HTML tag in a Comics thread and I can't see what's wrong with it in Edit Post. I've already put a mod request in but if somebody could maybe pay some special attention to make sure it works post-modding, that would be swell. Thanks!

I'm having a tidy moment: Headshop mods, please could we have a summary for the Headshop Reading Group thread? Maybe "Suggestions of material and plans for reading group threads. What kind of material would you like to study with other Barbelith people, and how do you want to go about it?" unless something more apt springs to your mind.

A member has asked to delete all hir posts from a thread. The reason is good, I think, but it's going to turn the thread largely incomprehensible, and in the interests of speed, I'm going to move to ghost the thread, to get it out of the way while the mod requests are decided on.

Seems fair enough.

No, it doesn't. It's a very weighty, multiple page thread in one of the more serious fora. I don't think deleting the entire thread without agreement from people who's put a lot of time and effort into it is fair.

Well, hence my suggestion that the thread be "ghosted" - I've bookmarked it, and so anyone wishing to review it could just PM me and ask for the link, if they didn't already have it, and it could then be undeleted once it's clear. However, not a big deal at present - it was a back-up to remove an immediate issue in a reversible way if the deletes were vetoes.

Yeah, it was the "getting it out of the way while..." part that seemed fair. Less keen on the idea of erasing it or gutting it permanently, though I do see how that could be acceptable if it was a matter of urgency; hopefully we can come to some arrangement which compromises neither the overall quality of the thread nor the poster's privacy.

Can I ask what thread we're talking about deleting, here? I don't want to know the identity of the poster, just the thread in question.

Hmmm, do we have no Conversation mods on this evening? I asked for this post to be edited over an hour ago, as I'd tried to embed a YouTube video, to a link to the clip instead. Doesn't seem to have been okayed yet, though strangely Lula has replied to it.

I agreed it and then because it interested me and I had already seen the clip I replied to it before the change had gone through.

That was quite weird of me. Sorry.

In my post to the Latour Reading Group thread I've done something wrong to the html link, please will a Headshop mod fix it? I would do it myself but I already have a trivial formatting edit pending so I think I can't put the request through. Link was meant to go to this. And damn, it's dated 2002 as well, not 2001, I need to fix that as well.

Ta muchly.

Can someone poke at the edit i requested in the Preach HBO thread I started in TV?

I fleshed out the opening post to make it a more suitable kick off to a thread.

This post in response to the conversation regarding this comment has we feeling icky. While the whole conversation feels a little weird, and DF's comment makes me go "uh, what?", yawn's bit has me worried.

worried about what, specifically?

It feels vaguely homophobic. To me, anyway. Like I said, the whole conversation on lederhosen has me going "WTF?", but the "It's from that gay bar. You know. The one you're ALWAYS IN! (LOL)" part feels uncomfortable to me (And yawn, I know that's not what you said, but that's kind of how it read to me...).

i read it another way.

i thought the ribbing was yawn's way of pointing out duncan has no knowledge of actual gay bars.
its pretty clear he's not often in a gay bar at all, not unless there is one i havent ever been to that has a lederhosen night, one that he's been keeping to himself.

what made you guys go the other way?

I tend to fall in line with toksik on this one...it's a response/jab at the moderately homophobic (heterosexist?) tone of Falke's comment rather than a homophobic one in and of itself.

Actually, I was more offended by Qualyn referring to "laughing at the nellies" because by that point in the thread it only seemed to imply that somebody was saying all butlers were "nellies" - I hadn't picked out any particularly homophobic commentary by that point.

Hmm.

Where's that camp humour thread, is it in the Head Shop? The whole thing's made me think about camp and its relation to homophobia and self-deprecation, and camp when used by non-queer-identified people.

i'm sorry, but i have to mention that mordant's post is making me giggle, especially in the context of an all-night one-man lederhosen bar.

i mean, come on.
