Spoken like a man who's never seem me in a nighty. The mod request is out there - I can see that it might be a bit odd to read that abstract and then go into Dragon's first post - maybe just have a note saying (abstract moderated for clarity)?

Certainly can't see what would be the harm.

But misleadingly lucid summaries are created all the time when people, say, start a thread that has a rubbish first post and no abstract at all...

I agreed the one with the link rather than the one without but maybe it needs a bit more discussion.

Ah, who knows what the future might bring, eh? And you have a transparent nighty? You sexy beast, you.

(Oh my Dog, I'm flirting with Haus!)

Sorry, back on topic:

But misleadingly ludic summaries are created all the time when people, say, start a thread that has a rubbish first post and no abstract at all...

But there's a difference between (say) a playful thread in Conversation and serious thread in HeadShop. Plus, this shows that while we won't tolerate dodgy language (etc), we are prepared to show where, how, an why we edit stuff. That means we come across as open and accountable, and not needlessly censorious bunch (er, I think).

For "ludic" read "lucid", PW. He's right, though - many's the man-mad mental ravings of a one-off nobmaster been given a toopic summary where there was none reading "Lizards. Are they indeed our cosmic masters? What do UFO sightings, the Tunguska explosion and Lordi's Eurovision triumph have to tell us about the Masonic conspiracy?"...

Ah, right. Flyboy, I hope you realsie your typo made me get my dictionary out. MInd you, I've learnt a new word, so nice one. And fair point, as well.

I need to think more about the precedent we might be setting here...hmm....

As I say, I can't see the harm. I also can't see the harm in NOT doing it, though.

*Bump!*

Dragon's thread summary is still there and it's making my eyes bleed. So, what does everyone else think about changing it? Yay or nay?

yawn may already be on the case, but if not, Film/TV Mods should note there's been an accident in the Superman thread...

On it.

Paranoidwriter: I'm pretty sure I moved to change that summary, so either there's been a technical hitch or somebody disagreed it. If the former, we can resubmit. If the latter, we need to find out why it was disagreed and whether a changed version would be acceptable to moderators.

Anyone?

I do like the end of yawn's final, full post:

ps. sorry if some points made here have already been made

Understatement of the year?

Um, I somehow managed to bollocks up the Michael Franti thread I put up in music (and I thought I could just slip it in quietly...all my cool points gone...gone...if I ever had any). Can a mod somehow remedy this or can the thread be deleted so I can put it up properly?

It looks like it's been fixed, Polish. If it was the same as the problem you had in this post, it's because you didn't put a closing quote after the URL in your link HTML. As such, the browser can't see any end to the link HTML.

E. Randy Dupre
00:58 / 26.07.06
It's not fixed - I just checked the page source. It's the same problem, but it's had a different effect in the Music thread because the broken link in this one came at the very end of the post, whereas it's in the middle of that one.

Like Haus says, you need a closing set of quotation marks if you've got an opening one, otherwise the board won't know what's link and what's text.

I can't remember: what's the current situation with DEDI? Is ze some kind of troll, or am I getting all this wildly wrong? See here.

AFAICT, DeDI last posted here and seemed to be in somewhat good standing (having apologized as ze did). Not a troll, IME. Others may disagree.

I understand your frustration tho, PW. Bang bang bang goes my head. Crunch crunch crunch goes my desk.

Hmmm...cheers, monk. I'll give hir the benefit of the doubt for now, and (if that was a joke) maybe someone should remind him that such jokes are not welcome around here. Dog I hope ze was joking...

PW, with the best will in the world, I'm not sure if you get to decide what is or isn't acceptable on Barbelith.

Morpheus does that.

Yeah, sorry. I was going on past form. But it was wrong of me to make the leap from what I find unacceptable and what Barbelith as a whole finds unacceptable. I certainly don't think I'm some kind of head-arbiter of taste and decency around here, however, and I thought my language reflected this. But I'll try harder in future. Also, I have apologised in-thread, btw.

I'm also too hot and (for many reasons) quite angry today, but I should know better than to post when I'm in this mindset. I'll go way for a while and hopefully regain some perspective.

All the best.

Could someone add the words 'Jack Bauer' to the 24 thread summary? At the moment it's pretty impossible to find (since 24 is too short to turn up anything).

Can we get changes to title and abstract on the "What The Hell?" thread in TV & Film?

Proposed Title: Who Wants To Be A Superhero?

Proposed Abstract: Beware the Iron Enforcer! Sci-Fi Channel "reality" program in which delusional geeks compete for the chance to star in a Dark Horse comic book. And Smilin' Stan Lee is running the show!

FinderWolf
23:19 / 04.08.06
That's an excellent proposal - I too (as I would imagine, many others) was thinking that something more specific than "What the hell?" should be introduced there. Your suggested abstract is fun, too. I'm not a mod, but by all means, in my 'average citizen' capacity, I think it needs doing.
