My friends are becoming addicted to this game. I am spreading the illness because I'm jealous that I don't have time to play online RPGs.

Kingdom of Loathing.

Characters (which are represented by stick figures) have three stats: Muscle, Mysticality and Moxie. Classes include Seal Clubber, Turtle Tamer, Pastamancer, Sauceror, Disco Bandit and Accordion Thief. You fight things like Sabre-Tooth Limes and Ninja Snowmen.

It's an open beta, so they're still adding things, and it's turn-based, with a limited number of turns per day, so theoretically you can't spend all day playing it and get in trouble at work.

Let me know if it sucks or not.

Stoatie's power level is >9000
17:23 / 10.01.05
Hah! Stoatie the Accordion Thief has duly signed up.
And fought a knobgoblin.

This looks fun! Cheers, Sekhmet!

Sax
17:27 / 10.01.05
Perhaps Stoatie the Accordian Thief would like to meet up with Doctor Sax the Disco Bandit for fun and frolics?

Played through this a few months ago and it's great fun, everything an RPG should be. Slightly unrewarding at higher levels and there's a crazy difficulty spike for the last campaign but still very, very good. Plus the rationing of turns so you only get to play for about 30-40 mins max a day is a great game balance idea.

I can't seem to get anywhere with this.

Possibly it's because I'm a Toad thingy, but I can't help wondering, on the other hand, IF THE BLOODY MACHINE ISN'T BLOODY WELL OUT TO TRY AND STITCH ME UP LIKE A F&*$%^& KIPPER OR SOMETHING !

how do you make meat paste to stick the head back on the body??

Sally Dammerung, Sauceror, is now also online.

Mazarine
03:11 / 11.01.05
You go to inventory and click make meat paste. You need at least ten meat.

fridgemagnet
14:58 / 11.01.05
Well, I am (oddly) Fridgemagnet. One of the turtle things, though I'm currently a level 3 Frog Director and seem to be beating up a lot of pasta.

Sign of Qalyn

Qalyn the Seal Clubber is all up in it, but very confusled.

21:10 / 11.01.05
Mordant the Obnoxious, level 3 pasta thingy.

Alex's Grandma
22:08 / 11.01.05
Scared Of The Bears is very much up for getting into a fight, if anyone thinks they're hard enough.

Olulabelle
23:51 / 11.01.05
Mordant, how are you level 3?!

I am Olulabelle the Olusieve, Sauceror. Currently I have lost 3 fingers owing to blowing them off with a knob goblin firecracker.

Why am I always so ditzy?

Plamf the Disco Bandit makes his entrance.

Somebody get to level 7 and start a Barbelith clan.

Mazarine
03:29 / 12.01.05
Is there anyone else to fight aside from Knob Goblins? Don't get me wrong, I'm down with whoopin' their butts, but as a Sauceror, I have to increase my Mysticality to level up, and it seems like beating the shit out of Knob Goblins mostly helps with the Muscle.

In any case. I'm still @ level 2, so I'm afraid I'm not going to be starting a Barbelith guild any time soon.

Grey Area
10:10 / 12.01.05
Grey Area the sauceror is lounging about the place, enchanting parsley as level 3 saucerors tend to do. The Distant Forest seems to be the place to go to level up if you're a sauceror, but I may be wrong.

Olulabelle
12:11 / 12.01.05
Dunno Sally. As a fellow Sauceror I am also mystified as as to how to up my mysticality. Although I did kill a spider on the right side of the tracks which briefly caused some excitement pointswise. Well. Comparatively, you know.

I thought Cobb's Knob was the place to be at first, so I haven't ventured near the forest yet...Teach me to do as I'm told. Huh.

Sign of Qalyn
15:03 / 12.01.05
In the town, I think in The Right Side of the Tracks, there's a place for mysticality stuff. You can increase your Moxie in the Alley in the Wrong Side of the Tracks.

sTe
19:43 / 12.01.05
sTe the mighty has tired of the puny knob goblin chef/scientist wanabees and is now engaged in an fearsome battle to the death with ...

... a possessed can of tomatoes, armed only with his trophey Knob goblin tongs, dressed to nines in the latest studded leather boxer shorts and disco mask can he possibly triumph?

sTe
19:47 / 12.01.05
yes

Olulabelle
21:47 / 12.01.05
LOL

*cheers*

sTe is fearless against the tomatoes. Woo yay.

Mordant
(prev. This is *my* hole.)
15:27 / 13.01.05
I'm level 3 because I hit things with my pasta spoon for a couple of days before I posted. That's all. Um, sorry, that's quite boring really.

iamus
18:15 / 13.01.05
Has anybody tried getting all whacked out on goofballs from the suspicious looking guy on the wrong side of the tracks?

I would. But I'm scared I might like it.

20:12 / 13.01.05
the goofballs will increase your muscle and moxie for 10 adventures.

Sekhmet
20:41 / 13.01.05
I gave in and now have a 3rd level Seal Clubber named Dorcas the Destroyer.

Curse you all, it just sounded like too much fun.

Where can I buy more food for adventures? (Other than at the flea market, I mean.)

Axolotl
23:01 / 13.01.05
I have joined up as PhearPhox the Disco Bandit. The game is curiously addictive, though I don't really know why. I'm trying to get my moxie up high enough to join the guild.

Sign of Qalyn
00:36 / 14.01.05
Yes! Seal Clubbers are awesome! Seal Clubbers will kick any other class's motherfuckin' ass!

palace politics
00:48 / 14.01.05
mordant: i'm pretty sure there aren't any non-adventure food-getting-opportunities that don't involve buying (or trading) from another player.

has anyone formed a guild yet?

I've just not been rejected by clan Noblesse Oblige.

Without even getting a bloody interview.

This is starting to remind me of something...

Alex's Grandma
02:06 / 14.01.05
I've just not been accepted, that should read.

Still rather hurt though.

Stoatie's power level is >9000
02:12 / 14.01.05
I'm still at the initial "fighting knobgoblins to build up points" stage, I'm afraid. Level 1 still, that's me.

A fall of geckos
15:32 / 14.01.05
I'm now going through severe goofball Withdrawal which is going to last - I think - for 87 turns.

Goofballs aren't big, hard or clever.

You have been warned...

A fall of geckos
15:46 / 14.01.05
Hmm...

Further investigation suggests that the only cure for Goofball Withdrawal is...

Goofballs.

I'd been playing for a while before I noticed the condition, but I think it actually lasts 100 turns. Reduces all stats by 50%

Goofballs... Users are Losers.

Take it from a man who knows.
