Over in the Zatanna thread, we were talking about how she fits into the pattern of the books. And suddenly it occurred to me to try to align the Soldiers to the chakras.

It's not a perfect fit, but I find it interesting:

1. Root chakra: Materialism, connection to the Earth, survival. I think this one is Frankenstein (or possibly Klarion, because of his Cthonic origins).

2. Sacral Chakra: Sexuality, creativity, self-worth. Definitely the Bulleteer.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra: Ego, impulses. I think this one might be Klarion, especially as it connects to personal development and adventurousness.

4. Heart Chakra: Love, compassion. Jake.

5. Throat Chakra: Communication, Creativity. Zatanna fits really well here.

6. Third Eye Chakra: Perception and Intellect. Based on a note in the Z thread, I think we can put Ystin here.

7. And that leaves Shilo for the Crown Chakra, which brings consciousness of the greater universe...the realm of the gods.

Thoughts?

As long as we're coming up with outlandish theories...

Frankenstein = Sleepy. He sleeps for over a century, only to be awoken and start killing teens with shovels and burning down schools.

Guardian = Grumpy. He has to overcome being all surly and feeling useless to feel good about himself.

Zatanna= Dopey. She can't even remember how to make her magic work. Then she can.

Bulleteer = Sneezy. Her origin begins with a "sickness", but instead of a cold, she "catches" Space Age Super Cyber Skin off her sleazo husband.

Klarion = Happy. Ignorance is bliss, but that's not enough for young Klarion, who seeks out what lies beyond his crappy subterannean home.

Shining Knight = Bashful. Justin is shy about letting anyone know that "he" is really a she.

Mr Miracle = Doc. Ummm. Let me think. Like a surgeon, his skill and ability has brought him a lot of wealth and stuff, but he seeks a greater challenge.

And my stupid theory actually fits into the whole 7S fairytale thing, with Misty being Snow White, Gloriana being the wicked queen and suchlike.

Nice one.

Have you guys wiki-ized those lists?

I seem to remember some overview page or something that could use some mystical & goofy sevens action.

No, but if you want to add it to the relevant page, go right ahead.

I put something here, but I seem to remember some other "significant sevens" page.

The cover links don't work, but the solicits for Frankenstein #4, Bulleteer #4, and Mister Miracle #4, as well as the second trade, can be found here:

That's a good look, Cameron Stewart.

Unfortunately, unlike the rest of Seven Soldiers it's just not cheesecake-y enough for me.

I am totally crushing on Klarion.

Yeah but meaning what? A compliment on the drawing? (If so, thanks )

Or, as what startled me, because I pulled a Hitch and used a photo of myself (slightly elongated) for Klarion?

Doesn't Klarion's skin need to be a bit bluer? Otherwise, I'm also crushing Klarion.

Intreresting that people think of Klarion as a blue-skinned alien. I always thought the hues of the mini were to convey him as pasty, pale, and sickly white. The blue was reflected, and merely a palette choice. Likewise with the low warm light of Cam's swamp shot.

CameronStewart
17:55 / 13.12.05
Actually, this is the uncorrected version of the cover. I didn't do the colours, my brother Dave Stewart did, and it was asked that Klarion's skin be made more blue for the final.

(PS Dave Stewart isn't really my brother)

That's fortunate, he's committed some terrible crimes against music and cinema.

A compliment on the drawing?

Yup.

Thanks then! As I say, I was taken aback for a moment because I did use a picture of myself, and I thought you were saying that I looked good in Klarion's clothes. And since you've never met me, I was surprised that you would have recognized me, particularly after having been digitally manipulated and then traced into ink.

I'm finding myself a little underwhelmed by the SOLDIERS efforts, post-Zatanna. Hopefully GM can pull us into an upswing.

Worth a read... Double Articulation offers links to the Seven Soldiers Syllabus (Barbelith WIKI at the top, natch. Good.) All of this is pretty much a compendium of the best writing on 7S the web has to offer - I'm sure I've linked Jog before, but it's allus worth doing so again - and I should know, 'cos I've read it all, apart from the Lindsay Duff thing because it's like... the competition.

It's interesting and edifying to see so many sources coming to similar independent conclusions about the running themes and very tight metaphors in 7S.

Like the Soldiers themselves, 7S kind of comes in under the radar, and it's great to see so many netpeeple outside of Barbelith really sinking their teeth into meat of the thing.

If it keeps up this pace of thoughtful excitement, I think I'll chalk the whole 7S saga as my favorite Morrison piece, certainly his most 'balanced' work.

Could someone please help me with the "milkshake" reference? I got SK#3 out like Jog said, but I can't find a milkshake anywhere. Wha?

LDones

SK #3, page 8, panel 2. Helligan draws out Arthur's sword, and says: "...I don't think I'm all *that* pure of heart; I once mixed fish oil into my brother's favorite strawberry milk shake."

Gah.

Yes. I was looking for a cop with a to-go cup. D'oh. She was calling her brother.

I received my comp copies of the first 7 Soldiers trade paperback today. It's a good looking book, the gave us the nice glossy paper instead of the usual crappy trade newsprint.

19.99! Buy it!

Oh, and for the first time in a long time, there's actually suplementary material in the back - a bunch of concept drawings by JH Williams that are really rather nice. It's interesting to see that most of the artists on the project, including myself, based our characters more on Grant's original drawings than on JHW3's.

Damn that guy can draw, though.

Over on CBR, they are discussing the idea that Melmoth is/was Mordredd the Dead, from Shining Knight. The idea has some merit.

Aertho
15:03 / 09.01.06
The idea has some merit.

The idea crossed my mind, but Mordredd seemed incidental. What's the proof/argument?

Bots'wana Beast
15:46 / 09.01.06
He is/was a king, I'd guess. Hadn't occurred to me, to tell the truth.

Mario
16:38 / 09.01.06
Well, it's mostly circumstantial evidence.

1) Melmoth was a king, and he was left stranded at Camelot. Mordredd was the king after the fall of Camelot.

2) Melmoth described himself as a "withered husk", and Mordredd looked positively skeletal. See this image:

I may be talking out of my arse here, but what if Melmoth/Glorrianna is/are the [once aborted] offspring of the Newsboy Army kids?

Aertho
17:28 / 09.01.06
Arse talk, already discussed.
