pointless and uncalled for

Just a reminder, as founder member of the Campaign to Shoot Anne Geddes on Sight the queue starts behind me.

My sister once tried to extoll the virtues of this vile artist which nearly sent me into the kind of rage that makes me put her engine block in the microwave on full power. Lucky for her she was defrosting some soup so I went and cried in the corner to mourn a brief period in my life when I had no sister.

'Wind the knob and shw wriggles like a real baby'? Jeepers.

I don't have a problem with dolls per se, though have always found Jumeau bisque dolls v. sinister - these are in a whole different category, labelled 'ick'. I think because no child will ever play with them.

Well, no, regular dolls are fine. It's the eerie fucked-up fetishistic objectification of childhood that gets to me. Let's hope the people who buy these things content themselves with plastic and vinyl coz (ped jokes aside) I'd hate to think of an actual child being in their care. Imagine a real, talking, breathing, nappy-shitting, shouting, laughing, running, jumping, crying, messy kid trying to live up to the "perfection" of these creepy little things.

Freaks'd probably have Junior laminated.

Aaaaahnyway. Here's some terrible faceless toddlers that stand in the corner of the room. Please don't let it turn around I don't want to seeeeee....

I am so glad that I am not the only one who thinks Anne Geddes is just creepy and a little sick in the head.

I remember seeing one a piece, with a little dark-skinned baby dressed as an eggplant/aubergine. I just thought it was so insensitive, and racist. I shall try to find it. It may very well be a copycat and not one of hers.

However, I find she oversexualizes infants and children, objectifies them and seemingly puts children in dangerous positions to get the shot she wants. The site I had sourced to show you some of what I mean is not letting me link you to them, but this other site has this poster, which totally creeps me out. Am I the only one who reme, bers Invasion of the Body Snatchers?

Now this picture makes me feel queasy. Ever so slightly NSFW - see through clothing. Then again, I would worry if someone saw me looking at any of the horrors in this thread.

Oh god. I thought the first page was bad enough, but the next page ...

If the first one is showing the baby in the womb, then what are those low-hanging sacks with babies in them meant to be, hmm?

*shudder*

I like the 'creepy' Japanese dolls. I want one!

Not like this.

Yes, Anne Geddes is Pure Evil, basically fetishizing babies as objects and pandering to the worst kind of 'cute' taste. File under BLECH!

On the other hand, the Japanese have their own creepy, creepy girl dolls

I've wanted one of those freaky little robots ever since I saw them in Lost in Translation. They're like a ghostly little-girl version of Twiki from Buck Rogers.

Anne Geddes has always creeped me the heck out. I don't even think those babies are alive. She's a taxidermist as well as a photographer.

Not quite as bad as Anne Geddes, but I think she trades ideas with Mr. Winkle, the alien teddybear dog with the non-retractable tongue...

Watch the short film on the site. Watch him run around (unclothed as God intended) doing normal dog stuff. It's so genuinely cute I don't know if I can keep my sanity.

are you familiar with the uncanny valley?

An example of the Uncanny Valley was seen in late 2004, with the close release of two CG-animated films, The Incredibles and The Polar Express. Many critics preferred the deliberately stylised appearance of the characters in The Incredibles to the human-like characters in The Polar Express (which were described by many critics as being "disturbing").

And it's not considered vital for piano-playing.

Yah, the uncanny valley was going through my head for the whole of this thread. The Japanese robot dolls are inhuman so not disturbing. The other ones, though, are just on the wrong side of convincing, which makes them intrinsically awful.

Stoatie's power level is >9000

Oh, Shade, you bastard! I'd deliberately scrolled down to miss that picture (it's genuinely disturbing in the same way as "The Hands Resist Him" was, and it quite freaks me out just to see it), and then THERE IT IS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

You do have a point, though.

AAAGGGHHH!!! Then when I hit "post", the thread returns to the top, and there she is again, being creepy as fuck!

I'm looking away this time. Absolutely dead serious.

Haha! Face your fear of the wierd doll Stoatie. I dare you to sit cross legged, meditating on the horror of it.

Chucky is waaay cuter than that thing. It's like she's grinning like that because she knows for a fact that she's stupidly creepy. Like something you'd see on the other side of the abyss welcoming you into the darkness and then blocking your way when you want to leave with that EVIL GRIN.

The uncanny valley... I hadn't come across the concept, but I now suspect I may actually live there.

That ZWERGNASE PUPPEN site is pure pure horror. The blonde Chucky-a-like isn't even the worst. See? This is worse.
