It's here. Previews has solicits for Promethea #32, with a trippy cover by J.H. and some wacko DC marketing stunt with the whole issue also being printed in 2 huge poster-size pages which apparently reveal some new wild image not seen in the regular comic. I wonder if Moore approved this (or if it was his idea, probably not) stunt.

The cover can be found on DC's website, can't get the link now.

This comic has been one of the most incredible books of the past 10 years. Discuss.

Thanks for posting these; they really are beautiful.

So I guess that's front cover and back cover?

What do people think about this huge-o poster idea?

The first image (white background) is the standard cover. The second one is listed with the solicitation for the "variant" edition where the comic is printed in poster form. That comes with a collection of all the cover artwork from previous issues, so maybe it's the cover of that book. But why didn't they go all out and do a holographic cover variant as well?

I'm not sure how the poster thing is supposed to work, I imagine it will be something like this only much more colorful.

I think it [the poster idea] makes perfect sense. Maybe we haven't "pushed the edges of comic-book art" the way the marketing deirectors say we have, but we have seen some pretty amazing things with Moore exploring the format of sequential art. In the STORY of Promethea, 31 ended all the old conventions, and yet reaffirmed the eternal rules of what comes before and atfer. The entire run already is a poster, and the only thing that makes it linear is the reader. It's only fair that the wrap party should reflect that -and we've already seen clues for reflection. at the end of 31, "wrap party" is written stylized as a palindrome.

I DON'T think its a cheap ploy. I DO think it's exactly appropriate for the theme of 32. It's up to us to give it order. Of course it will be bound as an ordinary comic, and it will be up to the reader to IMAGINE what the full poster should look like.

As a Promethea-crazy designer, I'll be spending cash on the the original issue, the variant with posters, and probably picking up Book 5 -hopefully it'll be out then too.

Variant edition goes for $49-95, it sez here. This edition limited to only 1000 units. Each copy individually signed by Moore and Williams. Gosh, it’s lucky I’m not rich, otherwise I’d *doubtless* be torturing myself over whether or not this could be worth the money.

Lunatics! order early, basically.

Already ordered my deluxe one.

And as supposedly the narritive remains readable and changes depending on which of the two posters you cut the issue into (because it can be made into one of two posters), I'm imagining it was Moore and Williams' idea.

Lunatic? It's effing Christmas, and my mother needs direction.

By the by, where does one pre-order online? I've googled and come up lacking.

‘Lunatic’ -- oh, not you, Chad. I’m talking about the others. Of course.

See, if I tried explaining this to my mother, I’d be getting a pair of scissors and a roll of sticky tape for Christmas.

Yes, it’s a big picture (maan), but nothing a couple of regular copies and some Sellotape won’t reveal, hmm? Ooh, think how much better you’ll feel about things, getting your scissors out and interacting with your comics, properly assisting in the construction of *the* image that finishes the series for you, rather than just getting a nasty pre-made copy and having to keep it safe from sticky fingers for the rest of your life. That’s not very magickkkk.

You know, I actually rather like the poster idea. I’m all for comics-which-aren’t-just-comics. I just don’t fancy the ultra-limited superduper edition-ness of it. It’s not cool, man.

You can order pretty much anything that's in Previews from G-Mart Comics and get 30% off. If you happen to live in Champaign, Illinois you can even pick stuff up in person!* Their preorders for February should be up within the next few days.

* I am in no way suggesting that people should want to live in Champaign, or anywhere in the Midwest for that matter. Seriously.

Predictions, anyone? I'm thinking:

-the whole thing will be written from the POV of the reader, as we get to take over the role of Promethea from Sophie.

-the Night Queen will show up.

-we'll witness Sophie - ecstatic and surrounded by her grandchildren - dying.

-Leary will be referenced.

Perhaps.

Yeah, the much-built-up Night Queen has got to show up...

Very much looking forward to this. Not sure what to make of the huge-o-poster comic cover thingie.

Yeah, I just couldn't throw down for the super-delux turbo edition, mainly because I have more than enough art/posters to cover the walls already. But I am very excited to see the normal version of the issue!

I had pre-ordered my Promethea #32 Variant from my lovely comics shop, Big Planet Comics in Vienna, VA. They got way shorted on the number of copies they received, but luckily I got one. But all they got was the collected covers issue, they didn't get any of the posters at all.

Then I heard that apparently no one got the posters, they are delayed 1 week. I hope I don't have to cut up my issue to see this cool poster thing!

Nah, it's you and me. Forever.

Got mine!

Once again, we get the whole everythiing is all is everything is magic is mind. But this time, everything is a mash-up, in a good way. I really think Promethea deserves some kind of recognition for what it's accomplished.

hey all
yes the posters for some reason are shipping a week late because of some sort of goof from the distirbution center. just found this out yesterday. very annoying but obviously it's beyond our control, sorry. hopefully there won't be any problems beyond that.

And congratulations on a job well done jhw3. Did you paint the composite posters?

(No sign of the Night Queen, Finder.)

I too am waiting on my posters and while I could dissasemble the "normal" issue I picked up, I'd rather wait and see the whole thing next week.

I think it was an apropriate end-cap and the art is amazing... I can't wait to see the bigger images.

I took mine apart, too, except I like the not-gold one better. Pretty cool. Like something between Snakes & Ladders and Promethea's own tarot issue. Has there been any official word on Moore coming back and writing the end of the universe in Tom Strong?

FinderWolf
17:31 / 17.02.05
what's 'the gold one'? Is that the huge poster image or the alternate version of the issue? What's better about the 'gold one'?

I can't stand it when people put white lettering against really light colored background. Other than that, this looks fascinating (only skimmed it last night)... like a visual essay on magick.

There's like a goldy-yellow poster and a purply-blue one, Finder. That's all.

They look very nice indeed. I tore up my comic to make them this very evening. Not read them in poster sequence yet.

It's all summary stuff really; clever, but not especialy revelatory.

no real surpises, yeah.

But hey: Mushrooms and Animals share collagen. So that means if we smoke Meg Ryan's lips, we'll all have pychedelic experiences. And Windsor McKay made animation before people knew what animation was. It's hard to imagine people not being able to decipher drawn imagery from real-life. I'm so post-cellphone.

Also: I'm going to read Finnegan's Wake!

i had pre-ordered the variant edition from GMart in December for a shocking $32.00 including tax and now they're telling me it's going to be another $20 for shipping! so much for the discount...

oh and hi, incidentally.
