What the abstract says.
Which posters would be the Gods of which attributes? For ego's sake it'd probably be best if you answer for each other rather than yourselves, but what the hell, do as you see fit.

Does this have to be restricted to the Greek gods? Can we make up our own if we can give them a decent back story?

Well, to start, I nominate Steve as Eros.

i'm totally THOR.
i'd eat my own fucking goats, man.

that of course is unless we are only allowed olympians...
in which case i guess i might be ares.

rage might be eris, i guess. does that mean we're related?
grant would be hermes for his sheer skill in information gathering and dissemination; tom would have to be uranus for obvious reasons; rizla gets hephaestus for his heavy metal know how; and gypsy gets hades for knowing more about the darkness than i do.

haus, flyboy, ganesh, nick and jack o'fear get the five titans, but fucked if i know how to assign them.

i find it especially hard to assign the female deities after eris...
how does one divvy up the goddess of wisdom and the goddess of beauty? there are too many wise and beautiful ladies here to choose.

and dionysus? maybe stoatie, but i have never seen him drink buckfast. baccanalian types would have to be impressive buckfasters in my humble opinion.

or most of us, i should say.

Honir, God of Indecision! And truces, too.

He's my new favorite.

LykeX
05:16 / 15.10.04
Actually, some myths say that Honir wasn't a real god, but an enchanted chicken and that's why he could never make any decisions on his own.
The story is that as part of the truce agreement between the Aesir and the Vanir they had to eachange hostages. The Aesir had to send two of their gods to live with the Vanir, but they cheated and one of the two was Honir, who was actually a chicken.
When the deceit was discovered, the Vanir decapitated Mimer, the other hostage and sent back his head to the Aesir. Odin thenused magic to revive Mimer's head, which is now placed deep underground near a well, where Odin will sometimes journey to consult with Mimer.

And that's what you get for spending your youth reading old myths.

...so what happened to the chicken?

Jack Frost is Zeus.

More like Icarus. Icarus MK2.

Just put me somewhere near the Wood Elves and I'll be fine.

What about the people who are already named after gods?

I'm looking in Ganesh's direction, of course.

charrellz
06:08 / 15.10.04
Clearly we should find mere mortals to compare them to.

Ganesh is clearly that guy you always see on the bus and you always think of talking to, but the elephant head is just a little too disturbing.

Papess
06:15 / 15.10.04
Well, I am obvious.

I see you Grant as a Hermes.

Anna De Logardiere is a ringer for Artemis.

Keggers you are definately Kokopelli

Thats all I got so far.

Fridgemagnet, you'll be a fine Imhotep

What about the people who are already named after gods?

Indeed. Do we need to select a new god? If not, I'm sticking with Tez; if so, I'm going down the Loki route.

XXII:X:II = XXX
10:09 / 15.10.04
I'm going the folklore route and putting myself up as Br'er Rabbit: not always the wisest of figures, but almost always well-intentioned. Direct echoes are to be found in Bug Bunny, who the Discordians hold up as Eris' only begotten son, and The Maxx (Mr. Gone always called him "Br'er Lapin").

I had a comic idea once that was more or less a memoir of my college days, but all the characters were assorted mythological figures. It likely would have been called Automythology. It may yet still see light.

I hope no-one's bagged Cotytto* yet. Except, y'know, in a sexual way.

*Cotytto, goddess of the Edoni of Thrace. Her orgies resembled those of the Thracian Cybelę .

"Hail, goddess of nocturnal sport,
Dark-veiled Cotytto, to whom the secret flame
Of midnight torches burns!"
—Milton: Comus, 139, etc. (1634).

Ahem... ah-ha-ha-hem. Over here, you nitwits.

First one to mention lemons or toilet patties gets a blight on his crops unto the fifth generation.

and gypsy gets hades for knowing more about the darkness than i do.

That's going a bit far isnt it... I mean, I thought that Christmas song they had out was quite funny at the time, but that's only because I was a bit stoned when I first saw it.

I'm claiming Cromm Cruac. I'd post the poem but I have babies to eat.

Grey Area

I claim Huaillepenyi, God of Fog.

Grant, with his web-fu, would make a damn fine Omoikane, shinto god of knowledge. Don't know whether there's a resemblance though.

if i may, i'll claim the two-faced roman deity Janus, responsible for beginnings and doors. January is named after Janus.

You mean like The King Kanute Crowd?
