I put a spell on you

Thought I should publicise this a bit more widely than just in the Temple. I’m doing a talk on hoodoo, rootwork and related folk magic stuff at a London venue on Wednesday 4th August (this Wednesday).

The talk is called ‘I put a spell on you’ and looks at the history and development of hoodoo practice, along with some stuff about my own experiences of working with it, and why I think it’s relevant to contemporary occultism.

It takes place upstairs in The Devereaux pub. This pub is a bit of a tricky fucker to find. It's in Devereaux Court, which is a little side street that leads off The Strand. More or less at the exact point where The Strand meet Fleet Street. The side street is next to a pub called The George, more or less directly opposite the Law Courts.

If you’re in London on Wednesday night and fancy a beer and listening to me gabble on about the mysteries of banishing aerosol spray, ‘all night long’ anointing oil, and double action reversible jinx candles - and how they can help YOU, then come along.

It starts about 7:30pm I think. Drop me a PM if you want more details.

Does anyone want to meet up somewhere before this so we can arrive on mass and make sure we (I) find the place?

Sounds like a plan. I finish work at 5:30 and talk starts at about 7:30. How's about meeting in 'The George' at 6pm-ish? The George is very close to the pub where the talk is taking place, but is much easier to find. Walk along the Strand, towards Fleet St and in the opposite direction from Charing Cross Station. The George is on the right hand side of the road (same side as Charing Cross Station) and directly opposite the law courts. I can meet you there then head over to the Devereaux at 7ish.

That was great fun, especially the Q&A...

"Can you give an example of workings where you've 'got your fingers burnt'?"
Gypsy Lantern: "No."

And whatsisname from the old Invisibles list who came to that first big Barbelith meet at the Spread Eagle, all those years ago...

Christ, I'm hungover this morning...

Thanks for turning up! I think it went quite well. Can't believe I got away with publicly suggesting that a lot of pagans might do better to ditch the magic and take up fisting!

Great talk!

Anna did you mean the bloke with the thing about open windows? Cos I got into an arguement with him over that.

Thanks for the nice comments about my talk. Glad you liked it.

Open windows? I must have missed that bit.

Really can't remember much about the Q&A section, was a bit drunk by then and went into automatic pilot.

Fuuuck, sorry GL, a combination of this being organised at relatively short notice and me being busy means I've only just heard about it. Glad it went well, though.

Just a quick note to say that I've been asked to give this talk again at Treadwell's bookshop (tavistock road, covent garden) on monday night (Oct 4th). It will be broadly the same content as the one I did last time, as it doesnt look like I'll have a chance to rework the material. But there will be more of a Q&A discussion section afterwards, which might well be entertaining. 7pm for 7:30 start, I think.
