I think you're right, Imp. Immanion being set up by Storm Constantine, there's a tendency towards... well, if not quite the Boris Valejo-type illustration that Fly pointed out, at least that type of fantasy thing.

I'm hoping for something a little more subtle, really, but we'll have to wait and see. They have said they'll consult, matsya, but the problem is I'm not really of a design bent so while I know what I like, I don't know how to achieve it.

However, I do like this type of illustration, which fits Hinterland perfectly in form and content:

this

and

this.

They're by a guy called Zev Robinson who I know nothing about but, if I could afford him, I'd probably get him to do something.

Yeah, a really fucking cool type aesthetic would definitely beat a ropey old fantasy one..

..but imagine if the hipster-acceptable coolness could be COMBINED with the basically applaudable concept of two beautiful, naked women, riding two enormous cats, against the backdrop of a ruined city, under a full moon..! How radical would that be?

Yeah, something like that would look great.

they're nice. I say get in touch with young zev anyway and see what can be nutted out. and with consulting on the cover, it's not so much you telling them how to do it, it's more you just making sure you're happy with the damn thing.

Wait - I'm getting a vision - I can see it, I'm thinking - I'm thinking the women have fauxhawks. Yes.

(Before I keep on readng the thread: Belated congratulations, Sax. This is good news indeed.)

Cheers, Jade.

And I'm going to indulge Flyboy his fantasies because I know he's going to buy a copy and plug it on his blog.

Immanion have now put me on their website, under the "authors" section. Gives me a nice warm glow. Look at me here.

They've also signed up another young buck, somebody Moorcock or something.

What, do they have a porn imprint as well?

Well done, Sax. And rizla, note that many of these authors have an East Midlands connection - go for it! Then you can get the cats. Make them green, with really long eyebrows.

Bloody hell, Moorcock's beard looks like it could hide several weeping beards underneath it. If only I could organise some special beard-jousting competition between him and Moore.

But Sax, couldn't you have made an effort to look a bit goth? Everyone else did

Not everyone else... the women are all goths, the men are divided between "goth" and "going out with a goth, came straight from work, feels both underdressed and profoundly relieved"...

That's in no sense rude, by the way. I love what you've done with your... hair.

So which one are you, Sax? Or should I call you .... Freda?

(Yes, I know perfectly well which one he is. I just like the idea of our beloved Sax having been a goth princess all this time).

Haus, you should know that I suffer from problem hair. And I was just getting to learn to love it as well. Ah well, 15 years of therapy undone.

Christ, they'll publish any old rubbish these days! Which is why I'm so glad to see a quality writer making it to the shelves for a change. Well done, Sax!

More whoring here, I'm afraid.

Immanion Press is having a Christmas sale with 30 per cent off all books at the moment, up until December 20.

Which means that, if you really, really wanted to, you could order Hinterland now at a knock-down rate and have a lovely surprise when the postman empties his sack into your letterbox in April.

Good God, you know you've not been paying enough attention to Barbelith when ...

this thread can get to page 2 without me seeing it.

Excellent author photo Mr. S! Nice nod to Hoxton on the hair front - cool, but not too cool, savvy?

And I'm sorry, but I just HAVE to do this:

[Private Eye]

Dear Sir,

I recently came across a picture of renowned authoress Freda Warrington and was amazed at the resemblance to barrister, political spouse and friend of the New Age criminal element, Mrs. C Blair. I wonder if by any chance, etc?

I am woefully out of date, aren't I?

Hearty congrats

That guy Neil Robinson gelled very strongly with the mental image I have always had of Sax, for some reason. Then I started reading the bio and thought "haaang on a minute"

If anyone's interested, you can read the first chapter and a bit of the second chapter on the Immanion website by clicking here then clicking on the button marked "Look Inside".

I liked the "Which me will I be today". I liked the feral children playing footie and I liked the strange feeling you get when you go into an unknown nightclub or pub especially if your heads not really where it should be...

The fridge part just reminded me of the Simpsons though..

Sax
14:10 / 24.01.05
Really? Did that happen on the Simpsons? Or just the general tone of the scene?

But thanks for being arsed to read it. It isn't quite the finished draft - there will be a couple of minute tickles before April.

Well it's not exactly the same Homer believes that when he closes the fridge door the bride and groom come to life so he keeps opening the door trying to catch them, thinking about it it's not really that similar at all in fact I think it was the freezer and not the fridge.

ohmygod, only just seen this thread. Jolly well done Sax, that's two babies and one book in what seems like next to no time. And IIRC, Storm Constantine is a powerful Wicca, which makes the whole thing seem even more exciting/appropriate.

Alex's Grandma

It's very... powerful.

And it is very brave. and I did enjoy it, but does the 'paediatrician' have to reveal the true extent of his antics before the end of page 1 ? And in such graphic detail ? All those 'smiling, happy faces, frosted with snow as on Christmas morning, casually noticed, as if they were dolls heads, lined up in a row...' in your hero's freezer while he's trying to make breakfast... Brrr.
