Fixing images in the Science Art thread

Do people think that we should clear up the broken images in the Science Art thread in the Laboratory? I keep looking at it and it upsets me, but at the same time I don't know really what to do about it. We could replace them with [image broken] text, or we could spend ages trying to fix them by hand and find the originals, I guess... Any thoughts?

Ah. I see. Not that easy. While finding the original images would be undoubtedly nifty, I think it would have to fall to Saveloy to be honest, since I for one wouldn't know the correct image if I saw it.

It appears they were originally hosted on a Yahoo group called chewing_gum_for_the_eyes, which I remember someone starting on Barbelith - I joined it, I think.

However it now doesn't exist. I think there was a big shakeup of Yahoo groups and various restrictions were put on them, possibly something to do with groups being deleted after a certain amount of time. Can't quite remember the details.

Thanks for directing me to this thread, grant.

I reckon I can sort most of them out. All I've got to do is scan them back in (I've checked all my graphics discs and the buggers aren't on any of them), bung them on Village Photos and replace the broken links.

Might take a while - I'll prolly do a couple at a time - but I'll get there eventually. I'll keep them all on a CD in a bank vault somewhere this time, so when Village Photos delete everything without warning me, the way YahuGruppen did, I'll be prepared.

I've had better luck with www.imagestation.com than with villagephotos for making the outside links...
