I finally got to see this and I loved it! I loved that it wasn't a parody at all (even though that's how they're selling it over here) it's a really good and proper zombie flick that just happens to be funny.

The thing that I really like was how these people (especially Shaun) were so wrapped up in their lives that they never saw the apocalypse coming even though it was all around them. The way every channel was screaming death, sickness, and zombies and he casually flipped through them. The fact he walked to the store, was surrounded by zombies, had his face up to bloody handprints, and nearly slipped on guts... AND STILL, HE DIDN'T NOTICE! This is, I think, the most realistic bit of the movie.

Everyone said there are a lot of easter eggs in this film but I didn't find any aside from the obvious Ash reference in the beginning. What else was there?

The DVD is great, especially where they claim they are contractually obliged to do a version without any swear words, so it's 'funk' instead of fuck, or the version where Simon does it as Michael Caine and Nick as Sean Connery...

Easter eggs - The Sky TV newscaster does make references to a virus or a downed satellite, however, this is most clear on the raw footage on the DVD, I haven't watched the film again yet so I don't know whether you get that in the 'remembering Z-Day' bit at the end. The voice over for the zombie game show is either Keith Chegwin or someone pretending to be Keith Chegwin, who did a similar style show, only for kids not the undead, in the early 80s.

One of my favourite moments, "He touched me..." it's all about Pegg's reaction to himself.

Also, Lucy Davis is brilliant and I want to hug her for her cute comic timing. See: "Oh, no, I passed my test" - but it's all about the way it's said! Oh yus. All the characters are very well observed and rounded... and it all seems very effortless. I appreciate that most of all.

I love how meticulously this film is put together, with a whole lot of care and attention to detail, and I have a whole lot of faith in the Pegg/Edgar combo. Oh, hello, Spaced box set!

I'm trying to work out why I didn't like it that much MacGyver. It might have just been the mood I was in but I just didn't find anything that funny, it all just seemed a little safe.

I've never seen Spaced either if that makes any difference.

I think I like my humour a little more strange.

But I've got it on DVD so I'll try it again at the weekend.

Fair do's, but to me the mundanity(?) of the proceedings highlighted the horror aspects nicely. Wackiness was eschewed for the most part, allowing the audience to actually care about Shaun & co's plight. The fact that his plan consisted of going to the pub and not much else was spot on. That would certainly be my first instinct. As Fraely said to me t'other day it's a thoroughly British movie that doesn't make you cringe, which we should all be thankful for.

Its a pity that the line about 'where can we go where we feel safe, we know where the exits are and we can smoke' will probably fail to strike quite the same cord the other side of the atlantic...

personally, i cracked up when they said that, tho' no one else in the theater did, cos i knew where they were going w/it. i thought this film was very funny and well done overall.

I saw this this afternoon, only person in the theater and I was still cracking up. I'm not that big a zombie genre fan, so I enjoyed the slacker life sections more, but there was some really strong horror material as well. Ultimately, it worked because there were strong characters, and they were handled like real people, rather than action heroes, and that was cool to see. Also, seeing some people from The Office was a nice surprise.

After seeing this, I really want to see Spaced. Is it similar to Shaun, better or worse? Anyone know if there are plans for a region 1 DVD release?

The scene where the newscaster mentioned a satellite crashing to Earth must have been small, since most reviewers have said that they don't explain where the zombies come from and I laughed a bit much when I heard it in the movie, and explained to the person with me that it was a reference to "Night of the Living Dead" which had the same explanation for the zombies.

The movie did a lot better in the US than I thought it would, especially since it was sold in the ads as a "laff riot" instead of what it was...a mix of different genres that normally just don't go together.

I can really see it becoming a HUGE hit on video here in the US, where people can get to know it as more than just a comedy.

PatrickMM, Spaced is, as they say, the Daddy.

It's a sitcom about two strangers who meet in a cafe and then pose as a married people to get a nice apartment in London. But that's only the beginning ...

It crams in loads of movie references (sometimes just quoting lines, sometimes whole scenes are lifted and given new comedy context) and frankly very British things that would go over the heads of anyone outside a certain nationality, social stratum and age range, but fortunately for all there are enough jokes and funny situations that give it a much broader appeal.

Aww it's a shame you can't get it on Region 1, but surprising, because Paramount UK had something to do with it so you may want to try contacting their website or something and moaning until they release it!

I believe it is on a newspaper headline. However, it may be necessary to correct both your and the reviewers' apprehension. *Lots* of reasons are given - I think other newspaper headlines reference other classic zombie flicks casus zomborum. The only one that is ruled out is the idea that it was a virus released from a secret laboratory (28 Days Later). Because it's bollocks.

yeah, out of the blue, but was glimpsing through here and seeing Spain's translation, I had to leave here Brazil's translation just so it can be on record.

I guess it's supposed to be read in a crazy!, wild!, goofy! tone. And, I kid you not, it's a play on Wayans Brother's Scary Movie's translated title, Everybody (in) Panic (since Craven's Scream was translated as Panic).

Yup, all sorts of fucked up! And to say that's the tip of the iceberg in the world of movie titles translations, titles allure and the sense of humor here just wouldn't be enough.

There is a rich tradition in the zombie genre of the same film having a completely different, and usually confusingly different, titles in different territories.

For example Zombie Flesh-eaters is also known as Zombi 2 (in an attempt to sell it as a sequal to night of the living dead, apparently)...
