I've not tried 5-meo, but ayahuasca is completely beyond rational explanation. It's one of those powerful experiences that's so convincing it makes ordinary life seem like a dream. It changed me forever.

i'm with you on that. i've never smoked DMT, but my girlfriend and i made an ayahuasca brew last year and it completely blew my mind. after the puking and the shitting passed, i remember experiencing reality as ((an infinite spiralling fractal sequence of purple code/a mote of dust flaking off God's camera lens/endless chain of dancing elephants whispering me the secrets of the universe and flying in a fucking UFO to the outermost reaches of spacetime)). apparently, i spent several hours melting into the couch with a blanket on my head mumbling incoherently.

it gave me great perspective and peace of mind. the elephants told me everything was already OK, it's always been OK, etc. i told them they were just a figment of my imagination, but they said that of course they were, because i was everything and nothing and everything and nothing was me and showed me how it all worked. it sounds like total hippie bullshit, but that's how it happened.

Does that stuff have any adverse reactions to prescription meds or foodstuffs? I know ayahuasca does mainly because of the MAOis involved in the process -- but I don't know if it's *solely* because of them, or if DMT has the capacity to do wacky stuff to your system. I know MDMA and other amphetamines can...

from what i understand, the adverse food reactions are the result of the MAOI and don't apply to smokable DMT. however, i'm not 100% on that. my girlfriend (Barbelith user ID=pop) understands all the biochemistry much better than i do.

Short form: Tyramine is an amino acid present in most foods. Its bad for you. MAO blocks it. MAOIs block (I is for "Inhibit") MAO. So, if you take MAOIs to enhance the effects of drugs like DMT, you have to watch what you eat, or you can get Tyramine poisoning.

Correct, the MAOI's are the things to look out for. Smoking DMT will not have these adverse effects (i.e. hypertension). Monoamine oxidase is necessary for the metabolism of many things, notably certain neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, & norepinephrine. When MAO is inhibited, garbage can build up. This isn't so bad by itself, if you're fasting. But you can run into trouble if you ingest foods containing Tyramine (cheese, red wine, anything aged). With MAO inhibited, the Tyramine does not get metabolised. Basically, more Tyramine equals more norepinephrine, and more norepinephrine equals a hypertensive crisis (think "fight or flight" - higher heart rate and blood pressure). The results can be a severe headache or even death.

This is also why you don't mix MAOI's with amphetamines or amphetamine derivatives like MDMA. You're adding hypertension on top of a drug that is already amping your system. Bad idea.

If you're going to use MAOI's, I suggest following these tips:
1. Fast for the whole day. Only break the fast on water, juice, breads, & nuts.
2. Do not mix MAOI's with amphetamines or analogues like MDMA
3. They work best when mixed with tryptamines (DMT, Psilocybin) or indoles (LSD & it's analogues).
