Look! Four fantastic bands! In, er... the smallest venue in London, apparently! I may not be there, I may be late, and if I do go I need crashspace. Flyboy may be there. That's all I know.

Oh, and that beer bottle that Valerie are holding on page 64 of issue three of Careless Talk Costs Lives? Yeh? I HELD THAT.

I'll stop this now. But come! You can see me trying to recover from a family reunion in Swindon!

Here's my review of Valerie from Janurary.

If I'm free I'll drop along for the other bands. I know you'll regard this as a blasphemy pinster, but I wasn't very impressed with Valerie last time, not generally, and certainly not compared to the other two bands. Guess whatever point they're trying to make just goes ova my head.

"Bumping" this again so Pin doesn't have to..

c'mon people, a band called 'Lesbo Pig' are playing! What better thing could you possibly have planned for that night?

I'm up for this - I take it there's no need to buy tickets in advance?

Not only is there no need, there's actually no way to buy in advance...

So can I crash at yrs then Fly? It's actually all a bit up in the air if I can go...

Well even the promoters have offered me a place to stay...

But I really can't make it, sorry people (yes, all the people. All the huge numbers of people hoping I'd be there. Oh, see the vast quantity... )

nah, it's nature's way of telling you to save your money for Bilge Pump, and other musical collectives with talent.

Can I call you sexist yet, Bill?

you can call me what you like, though I'm not sure that not liking Valerie makes me sexist, 'cos there are millions of angry fem bands around who can, y'know, play instruments, sing, write lyrics, stuff like that.

It's punk rock, Bill! No chords and an attitude, and anyone can do it, and things of that nature..

Bilge Pump are horribly good too though - like if Black Sabbath were The Fall - the concept still makes me shudder..in a good way..

pin, don't panic! yes indeedy, I knew.

Riz, yes, but i still enjoy punk in a way that i did not enjoy Valerie.

(am i too biased agaist Valerie? am i just angry that they were trying to kill Jack Bodiless at one point? Mayhap my judgement is clouded...)

Bumping this thread despite the fact that it's out of date in order to publicise the following gig;

THE GOSSIP, GIN PALACE & KAITO, Buffalo Bar Highbury, August 18th

..which should possibly be in the diary of anyone who can be bothered to read this thread.

The chances of my attending are extremely slim, but nevertheless that's an ABSOLUTE DESTROYING MOTHER OF A LINE-UP and I'd recommend that everybody goes..

The Gossip are one of the "millions of angry fem bands around who can, y'know, play instruments, sing, write lyrics, stuff like that". Sort of. Dunno about the other two, but I'd be up for this...

THE GOSSIP:

"weirdo blues-punk grrl rage from backwoods Arkansas!" Well known for their mental & energetic live performances.

GIN PALACE:

"THE GIN PALACE strip it down to rock 'n 'roll essentials... guitar, drums and vocals. Heavy Rockin' Garage-a-Billy with lotsa funny time-changes. Blues rhythms with chromosomes missing. Cramps? Link Wray? Stooges? Hunching, convulsing Twang-Power!"
- ARTROCKER

Haven't actually heard them, but you can't argue with that. That's also Jon Free from unspeakably evil noise bastards Penthouse on guitar, so expect, well, NOISE.

KAITO:

"like mid-90s Sonic Youth crossbred with some kind of deranged BBC experimental kids TV.." From sunny Norwich.

Now this I could be up for, if only because of Meaghan Gin Palace recently achieving potential lust object status. Valerie schmalerie.

amen to that, and the lead of Kaito looks rather lustable after too...

Never let anyone tell you that liking bands on the basis of fancying the singer is something to be ashamed of.

FYI, both the Careless Talk Costs Lives and Gossip websites say that this gig is at the Metro on Oxford Street (a shame, as it's a hole, but what can you do?).

You can say that again. Although the last time I saw them I spent more time lusting after her guitar, which in retrospect I find kind of worrying.
