I'm fairly satisfied with the last song I wrote. It's about what happens to sleep-deprived brains and has a mellotron and a hulusi in it.

"And, you know, I miss being able to lie down without spontaneously losing consciousness." -- > Makes me think of my father's head bobbing back and forth 40 seconds after he had sat down in the living room after a hard day out in the sun. Very lovely song & lyrics. I like the use of tinkly sounds in it, and how at around 02:20 the song grows and spreads out with the enveloping keyboard sounds, but it doesn't really go full fireworks mode. It's always restrained, I like that.

That´s a felicitous song, grant! (if "felicitous" is an appropriate synonym for thumbs up).

It´s reminding me of songs by the Eels.

You're very kind. I am felicitously restrained.

I really should get more Eels songs....

If anyone would like to read the novel what I wrote, PM me and I'll mail you a copy. It's 156 pages, A4 and staples. "Purple Socks" - I guess I'd describe it as Fantasy Adventure with a Thelemite bite.

How many words, guv'nor?

If anyone else is in a horror/chiller/thriller/ghost story writing mood (i'm looking at you, Sax), please do submit your tales of 800-2000 words to Liars' League by this coming Friday 26th September.

Stories will be read in October and the official theme of the month (in honour of Hallowe'en) is Jekyll & Hyde - but any stories of duplicity, duality and devilry, whether in genre or not, will be read. (If in doubt, send it in). We feed back on the best ones, too, and one of our new readers is a literary agent.

Email submissions in Word or RTF only, to liarsleague@yahoo.co.uk

So, Volume One of Future Earth Magazine is available for free download now, which I proudly had a hand in. It contains writing and art from around the world, including Juan Felipe Herrera, Anne Waldman, Jan Beatty, dg okpik and many others. It also features several wonderful 'Lithers, whom I will let out themselves, if they want to, so as not to overstep the anonymity of online handles.

It is very very good. And free.

ALL KINDS OF DEAD TREES
(prev. Papers regarding Tlön & Uqbar)

Just as a warning, my story isn't what I'd call "worksafe," in retrospect.

Papers speaks truth.

After reconsideration, quite a bit of the download, including textual and visual examples, is not worksafe. Apologies for not mentioning that in my post above.

This is really only for any UK ‘lithers who have kids aged between 7-10, but if you do fall into that category, boy, have I got something cool to show you…

Da-da-DA!

Maaaaarvel Heroooooooooooes!

It’s a new kids magazine wot I edit.
Issue 1 hits the newsstands today and, I must admit, I’m pretty chuffed with how it’s turned out.

If anyone picks up a copy and has any feedback from their kids, feel free to PM me.

There’s a brief bit about it on Newsarama, along with some art samples, here:

If anyone is going to be in the vicinity of the ICA this Friday, I will be playing some records at this night:

Illustrated London Noise
ILN goes out to the Far East and Asia for inspiration, throwing in some punk-rock attitude along the way.

Playing at the ICA that evening are Beijing band 'Brain Failure' who mix punk, ska and hard rock, along with 'Stanley Kubrick Goes Shopping', featuring Youth from Killing Joke on bass.

ILN will be chilling out before the live performance with some Asian-inspired sounds, and kicking off with some more raucous stuff post gig til late...

DJs include Viva Chiba and Filthy Rich.....

Starts at 7pm, free before 11pm, £2 after 11pm

In my midst of my current collegiate situation, I've been forced to make some revisions to my art portfolio online. In addition to the actual content, I've put quite a bit of focus on the design and layout, going for a simplistic mod feel. My goal is to accurately portray a consistent personality to strangers, and asking Barbelith seems to suit that purpose perfectly.

It definitely has a sense of uniform identity, so you're good there.

And I like what you do with focus in some of the photos, the soft careening.

The layout, sparse as it is, that sort of explodes into a block-image, when you select something... perhaps it says exacty what you want, but to me that felt rather claustrophobic.

Would it not serve better to design the site in-line with the rather full art being showcased? Maybe not, and I hope some of this is helpful to you.

Judging by the Newsarama samples, that Hulk story is everything comics should be: Is it because Hulk make noise like bomb going off? That just way Hulk rolls!". Also, Hulk not let robot snake hurt Dandi. Hulk wrong! Dandi not evil! Hulk learn valuable lesson about trust!

If I was living in the UK, I would totally buy that.

Just in case anyone was actually thinking of going (possibly unlikely) I think it beholden on me to point out that the Chinese punk band have dropped out so the Asian/punk theme has basically gone out of the window and I think I can basically just play some records that I like. Maybe for the best as it would have taken me some searching through my record collection to dig out enough decent records fitting that theme. I will therefore just play some more chilled out and off the wall stuff ranging from fifties exotica to, I don't know, bollywood and punk funk and whatever really.

Hey all. Long time no speak, really. The long and short of it is I quit my job this year, and decided to go back to university. I'm blogging about it, if anyone's remotely interested in reading it.
