"This June, Stan Lee joins Humanoids Publishing as their newest creator, writing the comic book adaptation of the upcoming TNN animated series based on his idea, Striperella, about a stripper super hero... Humanoids Striperella issue will feature a story by Lee, illustrated by Harry Cane, with a cover by Cameron (Catwoman) Stewart."

Shame on you, Cameron.

That's just special.

I wouldn't normally give a shit, but if anyone deserves to be called on this stuff it's Cameron "superheroes should be for kids! AAAAAARRRGH!" Stewart.

So: Hypocr.....

Sure, I can agree that (to some extent) superheroes should largely be for kids. Who said Stripperella was a superhero? Except, perhaps, to other strippers, that is. Perhaps Stripperella inhabits a world not of black and white, but of many shades of grey, where she represents something different to each character in the book; to Trixi(stage name), single mother and part-time IHOP waitress, she's a PVC angel, delivering near-fatal justice pon the middle-aged scum that pour cold nickel down Trixi's G-string, one coin at a time. To Buster Bartolucci (real name, in the Bordello Stan Built), stage manager, supplier of quasi-legal libations, and all-around ladies man, she's a demon of the night, cutting into his ill-gotten gains nightly, leaving only flaming nipple tassels in her wake.

Sorry about that. What I mean to say is that, while superheroes, comics, pop-rocks and skateboards may all be for kids, I'd like to think Stripperella is not among such highly-esteemed diversions. And if you think about it for a second, how could he not do it? I didn't mean to write all that shit up there, it just came pouring out. And it was fun, damnit.

Besides, the man needs to eat.

I wasn't going to get this book because they didn't list an artist in Previews (which is usually the kiss of death), but I like buying books by Stan. I know it's mostly nostalgia, but Stan always has a knack of making a story fun to read at least. And I can't think that this will be anything more than a tease, and not the "semi-porn" that the ads make it out to be. (which is just fine with me...most of the Archie books by Dan DeCarlo were tease books).

Oh, c'mon. Give Cameron a break. He's drawing a cover for a comic which is intended for an adult audience and will likely only ever reach a small number of people. It is new character, and not a preexisting character from children's fiction. It's a one-off thing and they probably paid him well for it. The guy deserves to earn some money.

Thanks Flux.

In addition, I'm not doing this because I get off on it, or because of the money - I'm primarily doing it because it's a good foot in Humanoids' door, which is a company that I'd like to work with in the future.

And you get to tell your grandkids you worked with Stan Lee. Just fudge the details a bit when they ask, and say it was Fantastic Four.

Yeah, give the guy a break. Were I an artist, I'd love to be able to say I turned down an opportunity like that... except, were I an artist, I'm pretty damn sure I wouldn't.
Go for it, Cameron. (Though, as Mr Denfeld says, pretend it was FF or something in later years.)

Oh, I was only taking the piss, Flux. But c'mon, someone HAD to.

"I'm primarily doing it because it's a good foot in Humanoids' door, which is a company that I'd like to work with in the future."

Understandably. Did they approach you about this, or did it come from Stan, or the people behind the cartoon...?

(And like Runce, I wasn't serious with the "for shame" comments...)

Not sure anyone HAD to take the piss.

I met the Humanoids folks last year at the San Diego con, and they've been keen to get me to work with them since. Stripperella is the first thing that came up that was reasonably suitable - I don't draw robots or giant space cruisers, anyone who's been to my website or seen my sketchbooks knows that I'm a "girlie" artist.

So, anyone else have a problem with it?

Seriously, I could give a fuck. I'd like to see you drawing Jodorowsky, Cameron.

Even if the comic does turn out to be lousy, the imnportant thing here is that our pal Cameron Stewart is doing the cover for a Stan fucking Lee comic, for the love of god. Congratutlations and virtual-beer-shouts are in order.

Agreed. I saw that news on Friday I think and I was glad a pal from here was in it. You, envious twerps. Cheers and congrats, Cam Catwoman Stewart. And I wanna see the bloody cover.

I am still thrilled to look at your pages in the latest Invisibles trade. Man, you've got it. Go nail 'em then.

And Cameron does draw very sexy women -- just witness recent issues of Catwoman for examples of such.

I like the idea of a publisher named "Humanoids."

Sort of setting themselves apart from those who aren't, one might assume.

Solitaire, thanks for pointing out that the Archie comics were sort of a sexual tease in their own way....though I was the only pervert who found Betty & Veronica hot

And everything Stan's written in the past 10 years has been utter crap -- the last halfway decent thing he did was his Moebius Silver Surfer comic. The JUST IMAGINE issues, though mostly all of them featured beautiful art, were awful. So I won't be buying this.
