I'm touting this as an extreeemely preliminary thread, a sort of 'feeling the way'. Put simply, Xoc and myself are planning a long weekend in Amsterdam in late May or early June - and it'd be extra-nice if other Barbeloids were around at that time.

So who fancies it? Amsterdam, early summer? I'm hoping to fix a specific weekend over the next couple of weeks...

I could fancy a couple of days early June. It's fairly easy for me to drop a Monday at work so I would favour a leave late Friday return Monday arrangement.

If we can get enough takers then we could try and scam convention rate at a nice hotel.

Just checked prices on this for GO and if you book online then you can get a return flight to leave Friday at 15.00 and return on Monday at 22.00. It would cost each person about £50 each way with all of the taxes included.

This is from 30 May to 2 June and the prices are more expensive on the weekend either side.

Right, I've gone ahead and booked flights for Xoc and myself on that weekend, except we'll be flying Thursday evening (29th May), returning Monday afternoon (2nd June). Cost a little under £70 each, including insurance. Now we just have to decide whether to go for the tempting-but-expensive perv hotel or one of the more reasonably priced places (without a sling, steel cage or "rimming chair"). Hmmm...

I'm more and more liking the idea of a loosely Barbeloid weekend: maybe one or two proposed 'things to see' but not hugely structured; meeting up to spend plenty of time chilling out in coffee-shops and pubs, splitting up to pursue other interests (ahem) and possibly meeting up again for evening/nightlife. Should be laaaahvely.

(And I'll get Bear into leather if it's the last thing I do...)

I'm booked for flights as well.

If anyone is interested in saving a couple of bucks and spliting a hotel room, I am equally tight-fisted.

I will not be staying at the hotel where that sort of comment will attract unwanted attention.

Ours leave from Gatwick on the Thursday and return to Heathrow on the Monday.

easyjet leaves from both Gatwick and Luton but seems to be a bit cheaper from Luton.

BA flies from Heathrow or Gatwick for a little bit more.

I was interested, but that happens to be a busy time for me. A month later would have been good and you lovely people might have been blessed by the company of myself and the Evil One. Have a good time anyway and don't do anything I wouldn't do. (I realise that this will severely limit your wardrobe.)

Just thought I'd say that what with the war and all, travel prices are really really low so if you're thinking about going maybe now is the time to investigate airfares and buy a ticket (i.e. before the travel companies simply cut some flights and such to save money).

I'm gonna take a looksee, methinks...

Mmmmmmmmm, I anticipate a spot of kulcher in the mornings (well, early afternoons), followed by long, ruminative, smoky, canalside downtime in a coffee shop with les barbeleurs, then Miss Bomb browbeating the bouncers into letting her join the boys in The Cockring after dark. I do need help to drag Ganesh away from the Flower Market or we'll come home with bagsful of seeds and roots again and see no sights.

Or we may just spend all weekend in the same coffee shop, watching a gerbil run round in his cage. It has happened before.

I can taste those lovely vlaamse frites and mayonnaise already.

I am committed. KLM has some nice deals going from Heathrow to Amsterdam for about £65 per person including all taxes. I really want to go and think that if I'm going to go, I'll be purchasing my ticket by this Wednesday. However I'll only be able to come for half the time, as I have my stupid weekend class and I'm missing it the weekend before, thus I can't miss it again.

Therefore the plan at the moment is to leave around 3:00pm on Saturday, get into Amsterdam about 5-ish, party with the Barbelithans on Saturday and Sunday and then go home.

Will post again once I've bought the ticket. But I think there's about an 80% chance of a Cherry in Amsterdam that weekend!

Dammit. Early June is when I'll be landing at Heathrow. I've already got plans, otherwise I'd take you up on it. Besides, I need some English people to pal around with so that nobody thinks I'm a typical American wanker the minute someone notices my accent.

Anyone for a fall trip, perhaps? Or is that not good?

I like the idea of doing Amsterdam when it's not everyone's holiday. Things are cheaper, then.

I'm goin to book my (bus!) tickets tomorrow, this is the end of May yeah? I could really do with a break, although bit worried about everyone meeting Stoner bear after most people just getting to know drunk bear
