I don't care what anyone says- that was fun. It opened with torture, went on to have ExACRTLY THE SAME SET AS LAST TIME and ended with Bauer hacksawing a man's head off. In between we got domestic violence, a nuclear weapon, four blonde women who all look exactly the same, a man who probablly whacks off a nite to swedish stationary catalogues, some moodiness and too many names no one is ever going to be able to spell, thsu earcocking online discussion. The bastards.

And no stupid little chinny chin chin chin beard. But George will have to keep the exact same level of stubble for six months.

I didn't see the first season, but my brother and I haven't missed an episode of the second. Are people against the second season? Why? I lead a very secluded life, obviously, because I didn't know people didn't like it.

The first series had moments of promise but all too often hosed them down with a torrent of lazy characterisation and renta-suspense plotting. I remember being particularly pissed off about the end. Why, then, was I giddy as a Gideon about the arrival of the second series? It'll just break my heart again...
My impression of the first episode: Tony Almeida's bald chin good, George Mason's face fuzz not good, Nuke good, cliched Arab bad-guys not good.
Oh, and Pin, he may be a ninja for the rest of the series, but in the first episode he's surly, he's bearded, he guns down an unarmed man and saws his head off: He's a pirate.

Give me a break. One doesnt start off pirate and become a ninja. If you're a pirate then you stay that way. Either way I think he's still the vampire from the Lost Boys.

I've yet to miss a ep. of either season but I must admit I was a little dissapointed with the theme for this season. Terrorists steal a nuke? WOW ! How original! Next season they're going to have to deal with Spectre. My big hope is it all gets settled a few hours before the last show and they spend the last few episodes doing nothing but relaxing and talking about how fucked up that was.

I love this show.

I just couldn't be arsed with it this time around. Recorded the pilot, but... just couldn't bring myself to watch. Kiefer can't do "bear", as the ads all seemed to be making out. So I missed a hacksawing, which would've made up for me wanting to boot the TV every time David fucking Palmer turned up on it in the last series.

After one episode, my brother and I were convinced that the next week's installment was going to be of The Kief hacksawing a live person's head off, for an hour, in real time. We were very afraid.

The utter implausibility of things happening within an hour was a big problem for me. They were driving around the city in the middle of the day and not getting stuck in traffic jams once. The amnesia sub-plot. The laziness of the last episode and a half. The fact that one lot of assasins turns out to be have been trying to get Jack to kill the mole that the second lot of assasins used to get information from the unit. The fact that poor people who live by their wits on the street will sacrifice themselves for you if you, y'know, just do right by them. The sheer amount of times his wife and kid got caught and recaught and so on. The fact that black girl in the police cells could not act. Tony's stupid goatea beard.

Do you need any more?

However, Jack shooting his superior officer with a tranquiliser dart for the first episode just because he wouldn't give him some information was a laugh though.

From the first episode and the spoilers I've been reading for the next 10 hours or so, this series will contain even more of the things that made certain people love it and even more of the things that made others hate it: ludicrous plot twists, constant violation of its own 'rules'... There's even a storyline coming up which threatens to top the Bride's amnesia in terms of silliness and "obviously desperate to occupy character X for a few hours in a 'suspenseful' way", but I'm not telling.

On the plus side, the moral ambiguity quotient has been amped up past 11 this time in, from the opening torture sequence to Jack capping the paedo. 24's strongest angle is that its main protagonists are a mentally unstable utter bastard who's still supposedly one of the "good guys" (Jack), and an idealist who's slowsly finding himself having to do more and more morally dubious things (Palmer). Oh, and the two of them have a special, special bond.

I, personally, thoroughly look forward to Jack, having hacksawed the guy's head off, to put it on like a balaclava and try and conduct a whole interview with whoever the evildoer he is supposed to be interviewing is trying to pretend to be the peadophile. I was hoping that Kim would maybe kick some arse this time and had taken no shit from that wife beating creep, it's been a year I'd hope maybe she'd trained with her father or maybe she has, new agent perhaps? I'm guessing you're refering to the alternative ending as part of the DVD pack of the first series. Personally not got it, as videoed the BBC2 episodes so don't actually know what the other ending is (but at a guess it's either Terri lives or someone else is the traitor and not Nina [and I hope to god I've not just spoilt this for anyone]).

But why is everyone trying to figure out the traitor in this one. What if there isn't one?

Like the fact that there seems to be some mirroring of the first series, but as flyboy states "jacked up to 11". Take this for example: series one; episode one, Jack shoots Mason with a tranq dart; now in series two, episode one, Jack shoots someone DEAD. What else can we see from the first series, only more so, in this one?

The thing with the hacksawing is that, when Jack shoots the peadophile, he starts feeling his neck and says "I'm gonna need a hacksaw".

And I hadn't actually noticed that the nuclear bomb had been planned for two years, but I really hope that's a coincidence... and everyone's looking for a mole this time because we feel like we should be prepared because just how little sense did it make when they even felt the need to unveil a mole last time around.

Plus I'm not feeling too cofident cos one of the blonde ones sayed that she kept bugging them to find out what happens next, and they "wouldn't tell". Or "didn't have a fucking clue", as the case really could well be. I'm sure there's an adrenaline buzz to be had form making this up week to week but for God's sake, won't someone think of the fucking fans??

Is it just me, or did George's beard grow quite noticeably? (I can't recall the exact stubble length from the last episode, but I believe we should all pay close attention to it... unless he's buggered off for good.)

Anyway, I love Kim's storyline, and how it's completely unconnected to the whole massive bomb scenario! It's great, it just happens to occur at the same time! Blammo! "Hey, I've got a new job la la la di da.... whoa whoa whoaaa! This guy's crazy!" It's a thing of beauty. I wonder if she'll actually become connected to the actual, what i'm inclined to see as the main, story?

I do hope Kiefer continues to be a real crazy man.

I read over the plot summaries for the American run so far on the Fox website - much like I did last time when I got entirely fed up with it - and was pleasantly surprised. It's entirely ludicrous and far more people appear to get shot for seemingly mior reasons... but it's got a better idea of what to do. The whole Kim-subplot is a really good idea - a seemingly unrelated story that might get related but (so far) only in an interestingly tangential way. Far more inventive than getting everyone into the same bag of shit, you know?

I still refuse to devote time to it, though.

Episode one sucked monkeys a little, but episode two? Wow!

1) Mason doing a runner.
2) The secret service guys arresting the reporter dude: "The President has a clichè he wants you to hear before you leave..."
3) And the "blowing up CTU" is a masterstroke.

I think the slightly scaredy-cat girl will turn out to be to 24 what Willow is (was?) to Buffy, a bit whiny but at some point she will get into some kind of scrape and kick serious butt.

Also, for the record, Jack was doing a great job of fixing the car. He was using *ninja* skills, spending much time in thought and contemplation of the problem, and deeply meditating over it. He may have even be utilising his pseudo-Jedi skills by "mending" the "engine" with THE POWER OF HIS MIND ALONE.

Unless he is still secretly pirate, and was utterly defeated by the lack of mainsail/anchor/rudder etc.

While part of me is pretty glad about that, I wa swatching the repeat last nite of the first ep, and altho I can't actually remember why or how I came to this comclusion, I seem to remember coming away thinking he wasn't actually a bad personlegitimate business in Georgea. Or Georgetown. Or Georgeville. Or where ever the fuck he was headed.

it is, if nothing else, a marbvelously fucked up and mean death. he didn't even have a spin-off that bombed (but he DID have a beard... )

I couldn't be arsed watching the first series after the first ep simply because if you take your eyes away from the screen for 2 seconds you completely lose the entire thread. This series demands your attention in a big way.

I'd caught bits and pieces of the new series - mostly the bits with Sara Gilbert in - then I'd tune out again. HOWEVER, as the beeb kindly strung the first three eps back-to-back recently, I've managed to follow the whole thing properly and I like it a lot.

The ridiculous ideas such as sawing someone's head off or joining a gang of terrorists to blow up a building or given a day to live because of radiation poisoning are actually quite entertaining. I'm also impressed by the fact that an entire building can fall on top of Darlene's head AND SHE'S STILL ALIVE.

In next weeks ep: Jack Bauer allows LA to be nuked so he can get at the *real* bad guys...

Wow, how can the politics of this programme be so completely paranoid and cartoony ("you mean ... he's been working with ... terrorists!?" - wake up love, your dad's a very rich and successful man, chances are he's been a cunt in his time you know) yet at the same time it's the most gripping 45 minutes of television I've seen in ages?

Maybe this isn't a paradox at all, maybe it's so exciting because I dismiss the cartoon politics out of hand and just enjoy the drama. Hmm, question answered I think.
