Surely the definitive version of ...Tenderness is the Monterey Pop Festival take? The studio version is too restrained, whereas Redding explodes when he sings it live. Which one did you stick up, Flux?

Hey Rothkoid, check my blog. I've got a surprise for you.

Ah! Thank you for being more specific, Randy - I had no idea what Sean was going for, I put up the studio version because I thought that maybe he was talking about the song rather than Redding's performance.

However, I will be adding the live Monteray Pop version to the blog shortly. Within an hour of this post, it should be up there.

I think that any Otis Monterey performances are automatically the definitive versions of those tracks - he was fucking hot at that show. The studio 'Shake!' is good, but the one at Monterey blitzes it, and no doubt.

I'm looking for the *acoustic* version of "Clean Needle" by Franklin Bruno (off the Abridged Perversion comp). Also the song "B Girls" by Young & Restless, it's from uhhh '90 I think. Ooh, and the song "Mitch Better Have My Bunny" by Princess Superstar. And anything off of Arab Strap singles/eps/limited releases.
Thanks to all.
Mac users, is there anything we can use besides Lime Wire? If you've used it you know it leaves something to be desired.

This is definitely a longshot, but I need to find copies of the following two songs (medium to good quality MP3s would be great) in order to complete a compilation tape that I'm attempting to remake from memory. My dad made the original many years ago and it got a lot of play on car journeys when I was a kid. It disappeared about ten years ago and I reckon a CD version would go down well at home.

Anyway, the songs are...

The Johnstons (Paul Brady?) - 'Continental Trailways Bus'

Hans Theessink - 'Gypsy Moth'

Neithe is particularly well known (or even good or memorable), but both need to be included for purposes of nostalgia.

Old one. Original cassette issues of Faith by The Cure (I'm pretty sure...) came with a long instrumental track called "Carnage Visors" on the other side. They used to play it once they got a bit famous. Ooh-er. It's about 20 minutes long... anyone seen it?

Please, please, please, somebody help me!!!!

In 1960, Johnny Gunn and Don Ralke put out an album, where Gunn gave beatnik readings of pulp stories by Frederic Brown, set to Ralke's signature jazz style. I've only ever heard a couple of the songs, one being "Blood" about a vampire couple who decide to travel in time to a world where noone's ever heard of vampires. The album is called:

Introspection IV: Weirdos From the Uncommon World of Johnny Gunn with the Outre Musical Sounds of Don Ralke

It was made into a cd at one point, though I can't locate anyone selling it. If anyone could hook me up with mp3s of any of the songs or anything, I would be eternally grateful...

OK, I've got a mainstream request. It's for a semi-ironic use at a friend's upcoming wedding.

Does anyone here have an mp3 of Bruce Springsteen's "Tougher Than the Rest"?

I'd like to learn it by this Saturday, and I don't have a copy.

It's on Tunnel of Love and on one of the live albums.

They were both reccomended to me, and I know nothing about either, except Spin Jupiter Spin were a Portland band that broke up.

Resurrecting this thread... I've got a pile of obscure one-offs I'd love to have on mp3...

Animal Logic with Deborah Holland, "We Don't Need A Reason" (their best song, thrown away, for some reason, as a non-LP b-side to the "Rose-Colored Glasses" single)

Johnny Clegg, "Ufomeni Uyangithanda (The Foreman Likes Me)" (nor sure if it was ever on a Clegg albuim: I've only ever heard it on a compilation called Carnival)

Concussion Ensemble, "Carny" (AFAIK this was never issued on CD—it was the b-side to their one-off 45 on Bob Mould's SOL label)

Faith Soloway, "Sister's Boyfriends" (available, AFAIK, only on the benefit compilation Respond)

and Tim Lee's "Back To The Attic" (originally released on 1988's vinyl What Time Will Tell but recently reissued on the two-disc set All That Stuff),

Longshots all, I know—and there's more where that came from; but this seemed like enough for one go.

You're looking for Johnny Clegg?

I've got a few Juluka albums (all on vinyl or cassette, with a couple ripped mp3s from those) -- you might find that song under the name of his collaborator, who I want to say is Sipho Mabuse. Lemme look...

Sipho Mchunu.

Although using that as a search term only gets me more listings of that Carnival album. Hmm. And, fortuitously, this collection of rare Juluka/Savuka/Clegg mp3s.

So there you go.

He had a song on the Ferngully soundtrack??

Yikes! I just listened -- those are only *samples*! Sorry. Maybe it's on iTunes.....

By the way, that totally sounds like a Sipho song. You should check out African Litany if you don't have it....

Thanks anyway. Just found the Carnival compilation in my local public library system, actually—interlibrary loan ahoy!

Okay, let's see if teh Barb's MP3 finding sk1llz are truly l33t:

About five or six years ago I heard a song on BBC Radio One's Lamacq Live show called 'Cheerleader' by Burning Love Jumpsuit(s). It was a 'mash-up' of that awful 'Buck Rogers' song Feeder did and a cheerleader chant about how wonderful it is to be popular, and after five minutes the song changed to something so awesome they can't play it on the Radio. A search has turned up nothing- I must have this (probably rubbish) song, but I don't want to spend any money...

I found it, Phex, but I wonder if the end is cut off. It does change, gets all meaty... and then stops rather abruptly. Let me know if you want a copy.

If anyone could point me to an mp3 of the Carousel Waltz from 'Carousel', the musical, I'd be much obliged. I want to find out if it's the tune I've had on my brain recently, so even a snippet would do.
