Okay, innercircle, we get that you're in the 'no' camp. Seeing as we already have one thread for people who've seen the film and want to discuss it, and one for people who *haven't* seen the film and still want to discuss it, started by yourself, I suggest we keep this thread restricted to arranging a group outing to see it, as 'Nesh has suggested.

I've seen it; it's great - I wouldn't mind seeing it again and I *definitely* would be interested in seeing it with a group of Barbelith people and discussing, analysing and arguing about it afterwards, perhaps over a couple of ales. Let's try to find a non-extortionate cinema though...

Erm... what "intellectual property", exactly? This is the first post you've made on my thread: are you claiming ownership over '8 Mile' as subject matter?

Regarding going to see the thing itself, I too am somewhat monetarily-challenged at present, but get paid tomorrow (hooray!) Anyone fancy going along to, er, 'big up' DJ Rabbit this Sunday(26th)? Or Tuesday(28th) evening? I don't know many cinemas outside central London and had semi-planned the Ritzy in Brixton - but I'm open to suggestions for other venues.

I would be interested in seeing this film. Sunday or weekday nights are good for me.

Brixton is on the Northern Line and as this seems to be good criteria for a meeting place then that I guess could work IMHO. The pub over the road is somewhere decent or we could swarm the Juice Bar which is far more disposed to intellectual conversation.

That's my tuppence, I will, by dint of pathetitude follow the crowd.

Much as it pains me to render any assistance to this venture which will put money in that creepy little homophobe's pockets, Brixton is actually at the end of the Victoria line, potus. You'd have to change from the Northern Line at Stockwell. (Shades of Mornington Crescent there.) Ritzy is a lovely cinema though.

Till 30 Jan, 8 Crap Mile is on at 1.00, 3.30, 6.40, 9.15, and Late Night Fri/Sat 11.45.

Feel soiled now. Going to watch Star Trek till I feel better...

Well 'I have a work colleague who I 've discovered is a huge Eminem fan and she's down for the post-discussion at the pub as well - hope nobody minds if I bring someone in from The Outside World... Um, we could always have a lazy afternoon tomorrow (Sunday) watching the 3:30 one and discussing it later. But otherwise I vote for the 6:40pm one on Tuesday (no problem for me to make it, as I finish teaching at 3, bwaha!)

Fuckitty, fuckitty, fuckitty, I have just been out Londoned by Scot. My appreciation of your efforts and compromising of morals, however, is only marred by the enormous crick in my neck that will cost a fortune in chiropractor's bills to remove that is going to be cause by having to hang my head in shame for the forseable future. (this could cause issues with watching the film, but then again I do have problems seeing into the future)

If it's any solace to you then Mr. Mathers most likely has already banked the cheque and I doubt is on a cut of the profits.

I shall be in attendance and I second the motion of the bar in the Ritzy. We can head over to the Prince of Wales afterwards which is not the finest establishment in the world but does manage to serve cold beer in a clean glass at a table. I say serve at the table, what I actually mean is that they serve the beer, you carry it to the table. It is also close to the Ritzy.

If the crowd is small then it may serve to visit the Juice Bar which also serves cold beer that can be consumed at a table but is far more chin-stroking.

Well, I liked it, 'Purple Rapdance' though it was, but then I quite like that whole 'talented underdog makes it big in music/dance/boxing/welding' genre. Surprisingly subtle portrayals all round, particularly Kim Basinger as his mother (I was expecting a much less 'redeemable' gorgon) and, as is to be expected in such a male-buddies film, more than a few potential Slash Moments.

Look out for the Barbeloid character ("Respect yourself, sista!") and the sli-i-ightly laughable moments when Eminem (and, interestingly, he's credited as 'Eminem' rather than 'Marshall Mathers' or 'Slim Shady') Defends The Gay ('gay' may be the new 'bad' but 'faggot', it would appear, is even worse) or Defends The Disabled.

All worth it for the big rap-off contest at the end...

A friend of mine (Leviticus) who saw it a while back (he works for Universal, so saw a preview) said it was "Rocky 3". When I said that reviews I'd read said it was "Flashdance" he said "well, yeah, it's both".

Anyway, to get back on topic, if anyone other that Byron and myself hasn't seen it yet who wants do, well should we sort summat out (as they used to say back in Da Sett... Somerset, for those of you not up on your badger/yokel street slang).?
