I think what I like most is that it sounds like the song all the "proper" new bands have been trying to record.

Except if they'd all gone mad and started being fun. Sure, I'm being a bit obnoxious, but it must suck when the evil manufactured bands (see Franz Ferdinand mercury winning speech/quotes. See same band in Harry Potter film) are doing what you set out to do ten times better.

And that's how this song feels. IT'S A WAR!

I'm Rick Jones, bitch

How exactly does this bit of fluff sound like the song all the "proper bands" want to sound like (bear in mind I've been huddled in an underground bunker since Zane Lowe took over the Evening Session and I don't own a TV)? You're being awfully snobbish about this, chum.

Yes I am.

Zane is cool, I've been catching the start of his show since I've been working later... not as cool as Girls Aloud but cool all the same.

Ha!
I've just see the video for the new girls aloud song- a piss poor cover of the pretenders 'i'll stand by you"
It looks cheap as chips now the pop idol/ pop stars money well is drying up. The fake tan looks really really bad- the ginger one just looks like she hasn't washed for a week or two and they died her hair black? weird non?

sorry fly i always thought they were shit- each to there own but the only bit of the pop idol / stars proccess i enjoy is seeing foolish wannabes make twats of themselves.

"i just wanna be famous... if i can't be a singer i'd like to be a presenter cos i got the charisma init"

Twats!

NEXT PLEASE!

Stop trying so hard, chaps. Saying Girls Aloud are better than 'proper' bands is neither big nor clever. Or provocative.

Bear
18:03 / 11.11.04
Yeah but "I'll Stand by You" is for Children in Need so it's UK law that the song has to be shit as the UK really hates children.

Their new album is meant to be very very good but I haven't seen it around anywhere, just U2 - no justice.

Hulk
18:09 / 11.11.04
bearo don't start defending girls aloud with yeah but...

its shit!

and they look like they don't wash!

I'd be interested in who I should give me my money to McGyver, seriously.

Oh and popjustice say it's good -
Justice!

It's pop fun, I like pop fun. I like pop and fun and fun pop.

POP!

Uncle Batman
11:17 / 12.11.04
Give your money to me and I'll spend it wisely. I like pop fun too, but I loathe anything that comes out of the ITV shit factory, anything as cynical and joyless as Girls Aloud. But I sense a 'pop' lecture coming on so I'll just batten down the hatches...

Bear
11:27 / 12.11.04
Well I'm not going to start yapping on about different tastes as it seems to be a lost cause around these parts but recommend 3 pop albums that I should buy/download that do have joy and I'll do just that....

Copey why's it horrible?

Hulk
11:46 / 12.11.04
Maybe i'm just not the target audience....

anyway why didn't they wash the ginger one for the girls aloud video ? that link seems to quite like the new piss poor song as well so whether you should trust them bearo...

and what do you mean we don't like kids in this country- a bit rich from a person that's going on a website whose target audience is 9 year olds???

I think it's a bit harsh on Barbelith to say our target demographic is 9 years old. I mean, some of the last few comments posted on this thread have been rather juvenile, it's true - cries of "don't give them your money!", as if somehow what records bear or I buy is going to infringe on anyone else's life; casting aspersions on other people's motivations for liking music; the tired old 'manufactured'/'real' dichotomy - but still, no need to have such a downer about the place...

I was kinda kidding, The Children in Need song is always shite - you really think that the websites target audience is 9 year olds?

the tired old 'manufactured'/'real' dichotomy

There are different levels of manafactured-ness, though. And a pop record can have integrity. But no, Fly, I don't want to spoil the fun of listening to Girls Aloud.

Bearo - the best pop record I bought his year was Kanye West's album, but you've probably already got it. I'll wrack my brainball further.

Juvenille or jealous Fly?

Bear
12:50 / 12.11.04
Yup got that one but keep thinking, the best thing about the music section of Barbelith in my opinion is the ability to try new things that I probably wouldn't hear about elsewhere.

It should be obvious that "the best thing about the music forum" doesn't have to equate to "the only thing we're allowed to discuss in the music forum".

Not sure what you're getting at with that photo. Let me try and puzzle it out: are Girls Aloud evil because they like children, or because children like them?

Hulk
13:55 / 12.11.04
some of the last few comments posted on this thread have been rather juvenile,

maybe just pointing out that saying that the comments got juvenille when discussing girls aloud is a bit like saying the toilet got smelly cos i shat in it...

Yes yes yes, scatology, very good. Do you have a point, mate? Are you in any way capable of entering into discussions? Have you read this thread? It's full of discussion! Some of the discussion is quite interesting! Go on, have a look at the rest of this thread and see if you can string a coherent thought or two together. Show me that your presence on Barbelith is not proof of the law of dimishing returns. I double dare you.

I'm curious if you found out that kids all across the UK were suddenly listening to Clor would you no longer like them?

I'm trying to find out if you base your tastes on what other people like.

Jack The Bodiless

No, they don't have a point to make, apart from vomiting the same vacuous, traditional, old-men points that Everyone Knows This Music Is Really Bad! They think Barbelith is like going to the pub when you were sixteen, which is why they generally just sneer at things they don't really get, shout WANK! and TITS! at each other and hope that no one notices they're too immature to be here...

THOR!
14:31 / 12.11.04
they're not as good as strawberry switchblade or even shampoo, yet have robbed the shoutyteen girlband aesthetic of all its diy charm. bands like them should have a very short shelf life so that the next bunch of chancers can try their luck, but with itv's artificial half-life extender doing its boring business, these scrappers have long overstayed their welcome.

THOR!
14:34 / 12.11.04
'no one notices they're too immature to be here... '

ner ner ner ner ner don't you mean too jealous, thicky?

maturity as an indicator of suitability to discuss girls aloud. priceless.

itv's artificial half-life extender

How does this work, then? And why weren't the evil Mysteron masterminds at ITV able to make it work for One True Voice as well?

If Pop is the new punk (and it is, it is), then purists are the new parents. They are there for one reason only: to be annoyed.

Flyboy you started this thread with the hope of starting an arguement....
Go on try and deny it.
But the only people getting annoyed are yourself and the other chumps that gobble up the saccharin.

I merely pointed out in my first post that the fragile bubble that is pop idol/ stars seems to have burst (thank the lord) budgets have been cut- they are no longer a priority act time to say bye bye (one hopes)...the marketing for the band is a kids/ teenage demographic- go to Sony/ BMG and ask, they'll tell you!

I found Girls aloud tedious from the off- why pretend they're a magical saviour of music when clearly they're not? I don't want to argue about the merits of pop over rock or rnb or what ever- as Gambit points out they're hardly doing anything new or interesting or original- The new song does really really stink. I didn't get offended by the first single or the fact it used guitars or whatever your original point was- its just maybe their time is up? Come on isn't that the beauty of pop? its disposable

(y'all know I love obscure shit too)

i loved that line... ;o)

Oh I think I get them alright. I get that they're part of a process tht is robbing music of it's charm. Seriously, I don't enjoy Pop Idol and it's ilk, because they're cruel, heartless, vacuous programs that reduce music to a formula, and revel in the torment of wannabes by wankers like Cowell and his cronies. I'm not an indie snob, but Jack keep hammering that nail if it makes you feel superior. Jesus Christ.

THOR!
14:55 / 12.11.04
well i'm no antipop scientist so i don't know the ins and outs but i think its something to do with the 'lifeblood of publicity' infusions they've been getting for winning the tv show, beating up on povs, hanging around pre-schools and stuff.

one true voice? one obviously's not enough for when there's four kids in the band. waterman was paying them in weekend trips to see old steam engines - NOT good for morale.

Bear
15:07 / 12.11.04
It's weird that the pop idol thing came up. Wasn't that over a year ago, surely they're no longer living off the 'fame' of winning that? I thought most people had forgotten about it? They certainly thought people had (and were also very glad that people didn't mention it anymore) in a recent interview.

Hulk
15:11 / 12.11.04
back to your point bearo- i like clor cos i think they're doing something interesting and original- nothing to do with who or what is listening to them- sorry dude.

They're a lot fresher than girls aloud- come on they've been around over a year now. Its time to kill em off...

They think Barbelith is like going to the pub when you were sixteen, which is why they generally just sneer at things they don't really get,

cos its sooo much more....

Its girls aloud not proust fer crying out loud Jack!
What is there not to get- the sultry look from cheryl (is it love or will she deck me in?) the bad tan job on the ugly ginger?

(**i hope no one notices i'm to immature to be here...**)
