Hmm. I do believe that the use of umlauts allows me to perform the Reichmann Steam-powered Inverter Shunt and land us on Oldenburger Straße.

Strictly speaking, they're not considered umlauts (nor diaereses, even) in the locality in which they were used. Do we need to consult the rulebook, or should I just let it slide?

grant
18:03 / 17.05.05
Well, they're definitely *something*, right? I mean, it's not like they're just decoration on the letters.

So if it was me, I'd let it slide.

Red-to-orange, The former Ramses, current Mubarak Station.

I think I'll have London in two, depending -- livestock rail variances are legal in cross-Alpine play under this ruleset, aren't they?

Yes, I do believe they are. And while this totally playing into your hands Grant, St-Francois Xavier is too nice-sounding a play to pass up.

So, two months and two terrorist incidents later, where does that leave play?

Well I suppose you have to spend a little time avoiding the lines that aren't actually working or you'll have to perform a replacement bus shunt. An incredibly complex move. 2003 inevitable attack weekday revision.

Hmmm, tricky. I know this caused the Great Schism of 1942, between those, mainly in the counties, who insisted on playing Mornington Crescent as they always had, and those, mainly in London, who played with Nids and even the archaic Woffs (have any of you tried playing with Woffs? That's a real head-fuck) on damaged stations and lines.

I know the King and Queen insisted on following the county version, even when in town. When the bomb hit the palace they changed their game to the city rules and the then Queen was heard to say "Now we can look the East End in the face." To which the King quipped "Bromley-by-Bow". Great days, real gents they were, even the women...

Doesn't really help much I'm afraid.

But if the buses are affected at the same time as the trains, there's going to have to be a different ruleset for replacement bus shunts.

Didn't Woffs involve animal-drawn vehicles, or is that something unique to one of those retro/steam-punk post-Blue Chalk Farm rule books?

Well, due to the long suspension of play I can now bring in Kentish Town on the Queen's Shunt...

You're not going to get away with getting that close.

Mudchute

Better than three nids for half a crown of the realm.

Just to bring back the excitement I'm releasing two ninja monkeys, a pirate shrew and a murder of oblique carriage crows onto the system.

If you try to make exit from the system there's a GMTV chance that your travel card has been nicked.

I'm completely lost.

Someone tell me what's open to me -- we're back on London-only mapping, right?

OK, it's a new game.

London only, international travel was barred after someone ratted on Lady's smuggling ring. Seems there was a strong market for contraband german teacups.

Nids are fly until the third round when the tracks become fully charged. After that it's all fair game. Switches, shunts and finagles are good - counds, blocks, shorts and traversions are bad. Pints are imperial, nodes are silent and everything else is 1942 Caxton-Watts GMT.

All change please because the note slot has been chewing up fivers all morning and I've already got a queue of angry tourists as long as your wossname.

All change? Oddly, I happen to have a pocket full of Susan B. Anthony dollars I got as change from a stamp machine last night. Weird how things work out.

So, new game, tracks charging up, I'll play Waterloo. As opposed to the other kind of loo.

Such wondering has put you back three spaces. Miss a go and give all the other players something that has stuck to your shoe.

I've personally never liked pickerings, I can use them but on a point of personal preference they leave a nasty taste in my mouth.

Kentish Town

You truly are a lady, Lady-- can't stand the brutish things myself. In that spirit, Cannon Street.

Thirded - no pickerings.

Grange Hill

Something tells me that the ninja monkeys are currently wreaking havoc on the Picadilly Line. The crows seem obsessed with the DLR. I knew this would happen.

Keep up, you called a new game so the wildlife doesn't get released until all players have progressed from zone 5 to zone 1, or half the players have progressed and the next player is left with no recourse except to Nid hirself.

East Finchley.

East Finchley, no trump. (G&G is for discussion of such matters, not playing. It stays in Creation.)

Stoat-ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH
13:22 / 18.12.05
From East Finchley I'm going to Turnpike Lane, in order to get that tricky internal glide out of the way before the Christmas rules kick in.

Thaddeus "B." Glands
21:20 / 18.12.05
From there, I'll head to Goodge Street in order to prevent someone attempting a Hangman's gambit which could be potentially disastrous at this point in the game.

Paleface: Okay, I'll buy that. Thaddeus: I like it, but I'd consider what'll happen the second time someone leaves demi-nid...

Tommy: As long as they perform a frontside diagonal shunt, we should come out of it okay. This is assuming we're playing the '74 rules, of course, which allow such a move thanks to Trumpleford's 3rd Amendment.

And onto White City!

pointless & uncalled for
11:45 / 20.12.05
Sorry Thad but it's still Caxton-Watts '42 and Trumpleford was but a twinkle in the milkman's eye at the time. No Swithering Blues either, just in case you were thinking of it.

White City was not a wise move.

Caledonia Road is though and that spells danger for X, Y and Z.

You think you all have it in the bag. But I give you... a Pembleton's Coupling which means grant and Paleface have to play their next moves from Ruislip. Don't worry, though, I won't be playing a Trafford Cough this time. That really didn't go down well last christmas.

Onward to Northolt!
