A group is its own worst enemy...
Geoff Cohen has a great observation about this. He said "The likelihood that any unmoderated group will eventually get into a flame-war about whether or not to have a moderator approaches one as time increases." As a group commits to its existence as a group, and begins to think that the group is good or important, the chance that they will begin to call for additional structure, in order to defend themselves from themselves, gets very, very high.

Important: PM threats carrying over into Real Life
Another poster has threatened to initiate legal action against me, as well as contacting my ISP, Tom Coates' ISP, Barbelith's host company, my workplace and the police. The fact that he has gone to the trouble of obtaining my personal details adds an additional element of Real Life threat. Other Barbeloids - particularly Moderators - may wish to check their online security.

PM Policy
Another PM dispute hits the public sphere of the board. Tempers are hot, two people are locked in bitter conflict--once behind closed doors, but now bursting into public space. OR Someone has received a nasty PM from someone else and can't simply ignore it, but doesn't want to get into it with the person who sent it. In both cases, how are we as a community going to handle it?
