What was the Nexus

From Barbelith

I thought the name of the board was the Barbelith Underground?

It is: but for a while it operated under the name The Nexus, and some of the old-timers have a hard time remembering. Senility's an awful thing.

Is there more to the story?

Early on in the message board's history, before it got a proper name, it was known as "The Nexus." Back then, it basically functioned as an adjunct to "The Bomb," the exhaustive annotations of Grant Morrison's The Invisibles. The backgrounds were black and the text was white or light grey, and everything looked very digital. The board also ran on (the widely popular) UBB software, where you format text with commands in square brackets [ ]. Now, we're an HTML board, so the brackets are pointy < > and making links takes a little longer. And we don't really discuss The Invisibles very much at all.

In many ways, "The Nexus" is just another way to say "The Golden Age," a time of mythic innocence, when everybody knew everybody, and no user walked alone.
