The Whip

From Barbelith

Shelly Gaynor.

Granddaughter of Rodney Gaynor, The 'Golden Age' Whip.

Super-heroine/autobiographer; Shelly has written several books about her life as a superheroine, her latest angle being the juxtaposition of the morbid and fantastical elements in her life.

Minor, related sidebar (http://www.barbelith.com/topic/14544) -- The Whip is related to King Mob from The Invisibles.

Grant Morrison in Anarchy For The Masses:

"The King Mob character was based on... DC had an old character called The Whip
from the '40s. No one had ever touched it; I found it and thought that was great,
I can do this real kind of S&M superhero. The Whip is basically King Mob. The
original designs for that, I just had this character who was bald and based on the
fetish stuff at the time, which again was established in the underground and
magazines like Skin Two."
