The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of Victory

From Barbelith

In Justice League of America #100-102, the League learns of the existence of a gravestone high in the mountains of the Himalayas dedicated to "An Unknown Soldier of Victory." The otherworldly and all-knowing entity called Oracle reveals to the team that the stone marks the site where the original Seven Soldiers of Victory once fought the Nebula Man to save the world from destruction, sacrificing one of their members in the process. After a long search the Justice League and the Justice Society learn the identity of the Unknown Soldier: Wing, the Crimson Avengers' aide and companion. Wing was laid to rest where he fell by holy men from a nearby temple who witnessed the battle.

  • In Frankenstein 4, Frank battles the Nebula Man at the site of Wing's Tomb and brings an end to the walking universe's terrible existence.
  • Sometime before Frankenstein #4, the monument must have been rebuilt and expanded, because the Tomb in the Frankenstein issue is much larger and more elaborate than the grave-stone shown in the Justice League story. I like to think that perhaps after their team-up, the League, Society, and surviving Soldiers returned to the site to expand on the Tibetan monks' work and lay Wing to rest in true style.
  • The Tomb looks exactly like the Tomb of the Unknowns (http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/tombofun.htm) at Arlington Cemetary in Washington, DC.
