The Ignore Function

From Barbelith

One of the functions included in Barbelith's custom-made software is an "ignore" button.

If another poster is being consistently annoying, rather than erupting into a messy online brawl, it's possible to simply make that person semi-invisible for a week (the idea being that a week off will give you time to get over it). Ze may post to the same topics you post to, but all you'll see is hir username, not hir text. You are virtually holding your hands over your ears and going "La La La La" but no one else need know about it.

You do this by clicking on the username and clicking on the "Do you want to ignore this person's posts for a week?" line. Easy.

There was, once upon a time, some discussion as to whether a person who is being ignored should know about it. The general consensus was that the advantages of knowing about an ignore would be outweighed by the dangers of such knowledge only inflaming tempers and generally making things worse. You can't ignore PMs, for instance.

If you've got something you'd like to add or ask about the "ignore" function, here's the place to do it. (http://www.barbelith.com/topic/19485)
