Talk:Klarion 1

From Barbelith

I was under the impression that Croatoan was a who (some sort of god) not a where. The village itself is called Limbo Town.

The "real" Croatoan was either a place (http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/C/Croatoan.asp) or a tribe of Algonquian Indians (http://www.geocities.com/bigorrin/lumbee_kids.htm), or so they believe.

My point is, having the location be called Croatoan clearly doesn't match what's in the book.

I finally read the issue over the weekend -- I don't have it with me (at work), but the one panel in the church where they're chanting to Croatan? That really seems like a lift from Beneath the Planet of the Apes, the scariest of the Planet of the Apes movies. It's set mostly underground, and the climactic scene is in a church devoted to the worship of the cobalt bomb -- a planet-destroying missile. It's the blue faces of the awe-struck worshippers that makes the connection for me.

Consider this a reminder for me.

Oh, and although I haven't seen it, the whole "paying off our ancestor's sins until we can return to the light" bidness seems like a borrow from The Village.
