Talk:EIGHT DAYS OF JENNY EVERYWHERE

From Barbelith

Check out this wikipedia entry on Jianghu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiang_Hu), the mythical, martial arts setting. Translates as "River Lake" I think, although the article says "rivers and lakes" (big diff, whatever).

Might be worth sticking in somewhere. --grant 15:24, 13 Jan 2006 (EST)

"I noticed you rejigged the order of the trigrams, and the places that I've looked at for reference all seem to put them in a different order too. How does this work? I'm just wondering, as mapping the trigrams to different days can make better/worse narrative sense to Jenny's arc." Meludreen 08:41, 15 Oct 2005 (EDT)

I just took the order they came in from the 13 Postures website... but the numbers matched the ones on the luo shu (feng shui square) in the link I used for the positions. (Oddly, the *directions* there were different, but the positions were the same -- the square put south at the top, while the martial arts page worked the relationships as if the top was north. Pretty esoteric, I know, and probably of no nevermind as far as the game goes.) Actually this chart (http://www.viajoven.com/fengshui/Energías/loshu.asp) follows the same pattern, so maybe I should change the compass directions on that page.

If you stick "feng shui shu" in google, you should find out how the movement of the trigrams is supposed to work. The path is kind of like a snail's shell. -- grant 21:16, 15 Oct 2005 (EDT)

I'm thinking that if Jenny's Altar is going to be inscribed with the Ba Gua, and each day she will place an artifact on one of the trigrams, we may want to start somewhere and work round. If there's no particular cycle they go through then that's Ok, we can jump from one to another. I want to be clear though. Couldn't find much in google with feng shui shu btw. --Meludreen 16:46, 4 Nov 2005 (EST)

OK, here's a graphic of the luo shu, the turtle shell that contains the trigrams (the legend goes the first bagua chart (http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/decorating_w_fen_shui/79073) came from patterns on a turtle's shell):

Note the numbers, but also the trigrams associated with each.

And here's something showing the path in numerical order. Cancel what I said about snails:

The page that last one came from is in German, but loaded with all kinds of great charts and graphs (http://www.harmonie-quelle.de/content/feng_shui/content_schulen.html).

Notice that the five in the center is symbolized on the bagua as that yin-yang symbol (not a trigram), and also has the number of the Five Elements. --grant 16:52, 8 Nov 2005 (EST)
