HOUSE STYLE

Overview

The Temple Journal is using a bastardized version of AP Style.

There are brief overviews of this style in numerous locations on the web:

Citations

Numbers

  • One through nine are spelled out, 10-infinity are given as numerals.
  • If a number greater than 10 appears in a sentence, all numbers in that sentence are given as numerals.

Pronouns

  • When possible, try to write around gendered pronouns (use "one" rather than "he or she").

Punctuation

  • Commas and periods placed inside quotation marks, colons and semi-colons outside.
  • When a quotation within a quotation ends a sentence, insert a single space between the single and double quotation marks.
"She said, 'I now understand your rule about quotations.' "

Spelling

  • In general, maintain American spellings ("gray," not "grey"; "honor," not "honour") unless quoting from published material using British spellings.
