General Information

The borough of Manhattan, as well as New York City in general, appears as a setting multiple times throughout the series.

Compared to other locations in Seven Soldiers, Manhattan seems to be centrally located. Sheeda incursions seem to start at 'in-between' places that can be used as dimesional entry-points and then slowly work their way inward towards the center. Sheeda insect warriors are sighted early in places like Slaughter Swamp, Miracle Mesa, and Castle Revolving, but Manhattan remains unaffected by the weirdness taking place at the outskirts until relatively late in the story. Life in Manhattan seems to be almost mundane by comparison, as if insulated from the early stages of the Sheeda threat by the centrality of its location.

The Seven Soldiers' fictionalized version of Manhattan differs from the real city in several key ways.

  • In the DC Universe, New York City is known as the "Cinderella City," since it is often overshadowed by its "two ugly stepsisters," Metropolis and Gotham.
  • The architecture of Manhattan in the DCU is generally loftier, bolder, less practical, and more grandiose than that in the real world.
  • To Klarion the Witch-Boy, Manhattan is the idyllic and wonderous over-realm known only as "Blue Rafters" and the destination of his rebel pilgrimage.
