Frankenstein

From Barbelith

Background

Pedants: yes, we know it's Frankenstein's monster, but let's face it, they're all family, so it's only right the big guy should bear his mad scientist daddy's name.

In DC Comics, this famous monster was a regular in the horror title Spawn of Frankenstein.

Here's one fan's four-part look at the original series: 1 (http://johnnybacardi.blogspot.com/2005/03/im-sure-most-of-you-are-familiar-with.html) 2 (http://johnnybacardi.blogspot.com/2005/03/part-two-from-phantom-stranger-24-mar.html) 3 (http://johnnybacardi.blogspot.com/2005/03/continuing-look-back-at-most-obscure.html) 4 (http://johnnybacardi.blogspot.com/2005/03/at-long-last-part-4-of-my-4-part-look.html)

Morrison on Frankenstein, in a Comicon interview (http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=004150), 5 Sept 05:

"Frankenstein is my own version of the
Mary Shelley monster with only a slight
nod in the direction of DC's 70s Spawn
of Frankenstein character.... My Frankenstein
is a nightmare executioner of evil, caught
up in freakish tales of Martian slavery and
poisoned nature….
"Since Frankenstein was created by Mary Shelley
in 1818, I decided to reflect the general period
in the character's dress and put him in a decayed
and tattered version of a Hussar guardsman's
outfit. It gives him a recognisable 'costume'
and also the retro modern feel I liked. Big
fuck-off boots with spurs, lots of electrical
contact bolts up his spine and neck and arms.
As with the Klarion design, this look tied in
well to the soldier theme."
