EIGHT DAYS OF JENNY EVERYWHERE
(My idea here is to take the entries -- or excerpts -- from each of the Days under the five daily tasks and put them in order here, to sketch an outline of the whole game.)-- grant 10:33, 14 Oct 2005 (EDT)

Correspondences
- The Ba gua (eight changes).
That link includes the eight I Ching trigrams, the eight treasures and eight holy items.
- The Eight Immortals.
Day One - Chen
6. Thunder/Wood - Arousing - Movement - Eldest Son - Family/Health - Green/Brown
Jenny
Mrs. Yin begins to draw Jenny out from her depression and kickstarts the growth process. By working in the shop Jenny embarks on the process of closure, but has not yet confronted the death of Granny in any real way.
Routine
Day Two - Sun
5. Wind/Wood - Gentle - Penetration - Eldest Daughter - Wealth/Prosperity - Green
"The gentlest thing in the world overcomes the hardest thing in the world. That which has no substance enters where there is no space"
Routine
Day Three - Li
4. Fire/Lightning/Sun - Clinging - Light-Giving - Middle Daughter - Recognition/Fame - Red
Routine
Day Four - K'un
2. Earth - Receptive - Devoted - Mother - Marriage Prospects - Beige/Yellow
Routine
- SHOP CHORE Bamboo Forest (the secret of the botanical gardens)
Jenny's sent to pick up a shipment of herbs from the botanical gardens -- but the deeper you go into the garden's bamboo grove, the further away from reality you get. Perhaps a mazey puzzle here, although it'd be nice if there was a village or something hidden away in the paths. Weird denizens offer hints along the way. Some paths exist only in one direction. Ever read Mythago Wood? That's what I'm thinking of.
Day Five - Tui
7. Lake - Joyous - Pleasure - Youngest Daughter - Luck of Children - White/Silver/Gold
Routine
- SHOP CHORE Huxia Riddles (the secret of Mrs. Turner's grocery list)
This would be the ordinary, feisty old lady whose order for exotic groceries turns into a major battle of wits. She might out herself as a fox spirit creating some kind of immortality elixir (although since Granny's dead, maybe not that) at the end.
Day Six - Ch'ien
1. Heaven - Creative - Strong - Father - Helpful People/Mentors - White/Silver/Gold
Routine
- SHOP CHORE The Dragon's Violin (the secret of Mr. Long's erhu)
I'm picturing something involving what appears to be an organized crime boss who needs his fiddle fixed (an erhu is a two-stringed Chinese violin), big mansion somewhere downtown, lots of henchmen, turns out to be a celestial dragon. The revelation might be brought about by playing the proper tune on the erhu.
Day Seven - Kan
3. Water/Clouds - Abysmal - Danger - Middle Son - Career Prospects - Black
Routine
- SHOP CHORE Moon Medicines (the secret of Mrs. Yin's mooncakes)
Jenny has to actually travel to the moon to get the right seasonings for the Autumn festival pastries. Lady Chang-Oh is helpful, once her mirror is fixed.
Day Eight - Ken
8. Mountain - Keeping Still - Standstill - Youngest Son - Education - Beige
Routine
If the corrseponding force to Ken in BaGuaZhang is Kao (Shoulder. Full body energy). Perhaps the House Chore that yeilds results on this last day should be something like a sticky drawer. Throughout the eight days, Jenny has tried to budge it and keeps chipping away to no avail. On the last day, a full shoulder charge finally dislodges it and inside is something very special of Granny's. (This action could sit quite neatly with Jenny's state of mind, showing she's finally getting on top of things).
Yes, that sounds cool. I should clarify that the "shoulder" thing is really more like a body check in hockey -- it's a holistic slam. Full body in that sense, using everything all together. So something kind of "holistic" in that sense, maybe... like, I dunno, a wardrobe or chest or something big and challenging. A really big roll-top desk? -- grant 20:51, 15 Oct 2005 (EDT)
