Analysis
George Gordon, Lord Byron, was one of the leading lights of the Romantic movement in late 19th century literature. Charismatic, club-footed and dramatic, his personal notoriety often outshone his literary talents during his own life.
He is responsible for, among other things, the creation of the modern vampire story -- a fragmentary tale from his diary, written over the same weekend Mary Woolstonecraft Shelley created Frankenstein, inspired his personal physician John Polidori to write "The Vampyre," which in turn inspired the novella Carmella and the novel Dracula.
