How it began...
The Barbelith Collective is an eclectic albeit genius group with vast amounts of knowledge. I would like to post up- one per WEEK- a name of one of the Elder Futhark runes and on that thread we would place our interpretations of that card (no matter how outrageous...)
- The Index and Meta-Discussion (http://www.barbelith.com/underground/topic.php?id=2373) thread.

Other Rune Materials

- So, now you've read all about what each rune means. But how to build a set of runestones (http://www.barbelith.com/topic/22003) or start using runestones (http://barbelith.com/topic/21375)? Well, those are other kettles of fish.
- An interesting thread on Runes and Anthropomorphic Magic (http://www.barbelith.com/underground/topic.php?id=2430).
- A Q and A about Asatru and Northern Magick (http://www.barbelith.com/topic/21221) -- things other than runes.
- A respected user's run-in with Loki (http://www.barbelith.com/topic/20891) and a Q and A about Odin (http://www.barbelith.com/topic/26083). (Not exactly runes, but parallel.)
External Links
- A collection of the old rune poems from Norse, Icelandic and Anglo-Saxon (http://www.sunnyway.com/runes/rune_poems.html), with some other material thrown in for good measure.
- Despite the goofy Viking groundhog graphic, Jordsvin's Rune of the Month guide (http://home.earthlink.net/~jordsvin/Runes/Rune%20Of%20The%20Month/Index.htm) seems to have some right-on research in it.
- Anti-magic materialist David Leigh hosts a very nice visual index (http://www.cratchit.org/dleigh/alpha/runes/runes.htm) of various rune alphabets. Strongly based on the idea of rune-as-letter/phoneme, but includes brief esoteric meanings and, most importantly, which symbol was used for which letter in what place. (Oddly, a beaver graphic also adorns this site.)
- Here's a site dedicated to Stav, the runic/Northern European martial art (http://www.stavinternational.org/runelore1.htm). Contrary to what you might expect, the "course" is actually pretty heavy on the linguistics.
- Old Norse for Beginners (http://www.hi.is/~haukurth/norse/) is, well, what it says. If you want to get deeper into the language and start translating what actual inscriptions say.
